Chandigarh, August 6: Director, Haryana Sahitya Akademi, Dr. Chandra Trikha said that novelist and playwright Dr. Ajay Sharma has the distinction of being the first in India to write seven short plays on the topic ‘Lockdown’ on Facebook during the lockdown due to COVID-19.
Dr. Chandra Trikha said this while releasing the latest play ‘Lockdown’ by playwright Dr. Ajay Sharma along with Vice President, Central Hindi Sahitya Akademi, Mr. Madhav Kaushik, at the Akademi office today. Famous journalist and writer, Ms. Nirupama Dutt, litterateur and satirist, Mr. Prem Vij, litterateur, Mr. Deepak Chanarthal, English novelist, Mr. Parul Sharma and many other writers were present on the occasion. On this occasion, special attention was paid to social distancing.
Dr. Trikha congratulated Dr. Ajay Sharma on writing plays on the subject of lockdown and said that before this, no writer had worked on such plays and shown the courage to bring alive the genre which was almost marginalized. He said that this is the fifth play of Dr. Ajay Sharma which was released at Haryana Sahitya Akademi. A total of 18 books of Dr. Ajay Sharma have been released by the Akademi so far. Significantly, Dr. Ajay Sharma has written 12 novels before this and his novels are being taught in many universities.
Dr. Ajay Sharma said that due to the lockdown, there was a lot of time on hand and he had the opportunity to observe small incidents happening in the society, which is when he thought of writing short plays. He said that he had never written plays related to this genre before. When the plays were posted on Facebook, many people expressed a desire to make short films on them, he added. He said that this made him very happy and also boosted his morale. Thus, seven plays were penned on the subject of lockdown and were soon published in book form.
