KARGIL, MAY 13, 2022 :- Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Wani today convened a meeting to take stock of installation of sanitary vending machines, incinerators and discussed solid waste management disposal in government schools.
District Panchayat Officer (DPO) Padma Angmo, representatives of Municipal Committee Kargil and Education Department besides other officers were present during the meeting.
DPO Kargil informed the meeting that around 61 sanitary machines have been installed in various Government High Schools across the district.
The DPO also suggested that in order to strengthen Self Help Groups, collaboration can be done with them to produce sanitary pads locally and make it available at schools.
Regarding solid waste segregation and disposal in schools, the concerned officer from MC Kargil informed that the solid waste collection van will be started across the schools.
He also informed that the committee has fixed Rs 100 as user charges in government schools and wherever the roll is above 200, the charge will be Rs 500, while for below 200 roll user charges will be Rs 300 in private schools.
Stressing on proper solid waste management in schools, the Additional Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to ensure it at the ground level.
He also instructed that till the mechanism is streamlined, schools should dig pits for decomposition and instructed to strictly ensure prohibition of burning of waste material.
Highlighting the issue of traffic jam during peak hours, the ADC directed the concerned officer of MC to run the waste collection van in the market beyond the peak hours and also instructed to run the vehicle after 7 p.m. to ease the traffic conjunction.
About complaints from the residents of Shilikchey regarding the littering of irrigation Khul near Poyen, the ADC Kargil also directed to fine the violators.
He also directed to start mass awareness campaigns to sensitize common people regarding solid waste management and the importance of clean and healthy environment.
