In a unique initiative aimed at making school girls empowered on the occasion of Women’s Day, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik on Thursday launched ‘Krav Maga’ an Israel martial art training program to inculcating self-defense skills to defend themselves against anti-social elements and facilitate their overall personality development.

Accompanied by Assistant Commissioner (IAS Under Training) Aparna MB, the Deputy Commissioner said that the safety of the girls was the topmost priority of the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government. With this self-defense training program, all girl students of the government schools would be trained in the martial art form of Krav Maga under this program.

She said that the girls would be imparted on basic block techniques by IAS officer Aparna MB who is also a certified Krav Maga instructor and her teams. She said that today was just a start of the program on the occasion of Women’s Day and this will be fully operationalized once the exams are over in the schools.

Malik said that these cover basic self-defense techniques were very much effective and practical and the girls can implement them easily to protect themselves from any kind of danger.

She expressed hope that this self-protection would make girls empowered and they will not have to depend upon others for their safety.

Aparna MB said that the program would not only teach a girl to defend herself from the attacker but also provide her the mental toughness to handle such situations. She said that private educational institutions could also contact the administration for training the girl students. She said that the special teams would also be prepared to teach the girls in their schools in the coming days.
