Applications invited from eligible students for Minority Scholarships 2020-2021

KARGIL AUGUST 22, 2020:

Director Social Welfare Department Ladakh has through a notification has informed the eligible candidates of Ladakh UT that the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India has invited online applications for Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Merit-cum-Means Based Scholarship from the students belonging to the six Centrally notified Minority Communities viz; Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains and Zoroastrians pursuing studies in India in a Government or Recognized Private School/Institute/College/University.

The student applying for the scholarships should have secured 50% marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination and the annual income of whose parent/guardian from all sources should not exceed Rs 1 lakh in case of Pre-Matric Scholarship, Rs 2 lakh for Post-Matric Scholarship and Rs 2.50 lakh in case of Merit-cum-Means Based Scholarship.

The notification reads that the on-line implementation of Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Merit-cum-Means Based Scholarship Schemes will be done through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) under URL www.scholarships.gov.in. A Mobile App-National Scholarships (NSP) has also been prepared for use by applicants of remote/hilly areas. A link to the site is also made available on the website of the Ministry i.e; www.minorityaffairs.gov.in.

Moreover, only online applications under these schemes (Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Merit-cum-Means Based Scholarship Scheme) will be entertained and submission of Aadhar is also mandatory.

As per the timeline of the activities for the year 2020-2021, the NSP Portal for submission of online applications for all the three categories viz; Pre-Matric Scholarship, Post-Matric scholarship and Merit-cum-Means Based Scholarship for students is open from August 16, 2020 to October 31, 2020.

The scholarships are subject to certain terms and conditions which state that the scholarships are admissible to only 2 students of one parent and students should be regular in attendance for which the yardsticks shall be decided by the competent authority.

A student shall be eligible for only one scholarship out of the available scholarships of the Central Government meant for SC/ST/OBC/Minorities.

The course being pursued should be of minimum one year duration and the applicants are required to apply online against any one of the scholarship schemes as per his/her eligibility.
