SHGs Proving Beneficial to make Rural Women Self reliant under Rural Livelihood Mission

Under the Punjab State Rural Livelihood Mission, untiring efforts are being made to make the poor women of rural areas self reliant by connecting them with self help groups.
Divulging the details, while attending the meeting of a SHG at Village Jalal Khera, Assistant Commissioner (UT), Patiala, Chandrajyoti Singh, IAS,  said that under these initiatives, village women are being trained and motivated for self employment and Krishi Sakhi.
While discussing the problems being faced by the village women in starting self-employment, Assistant Commissioner Chandrajyoti Singh said that under the rural livelihood mission, the main motive was to strengthen the economy of village women by promoting financial activities such as group loaning, bank linking after formation of SHG. She said, “Patiala District has successful models of SHGs activities and we are promoting such activities in other villages too.”
During the meeting, She alongwith DPM, NRLM Reena Rani, sensitised the women members of Jalal Khera SHG to become Krishi Sakhi and Pashu Sakhi and the women showed keen interest to get the responsibility. It is worthwhile to mention that Krishi Sakhi program has been started as an effort to promote organic farming in the villages by imparting training to the women so that the people can get fresh and nutritious vegetables.  After this the women of the village also enrolled their names to become Krishi Sakhi.
