Continuing the impressive performance demonstrated by Punjab’s athletes at the international level, players from the region have achieved tremendous success in archery, hockey, and badminton.

Two archers from Punjab, Simranjit Kaur and Praneet Kaur, clinched three gold and two silver medals in the Asia Cup of Archery held in Baghdad, Iraq. Simranjit Kaur, from Abohar, secured two gold medals in the mixed team and women’s recurve events, along with a silver medal in the individual category. Similarly, Praneet Kaur from Mansa claimed gold in the individual category and silver in the team category of the compound event.

In the Hockey game India beat Ireland 4-0 in the last match of the Indian leg in the Pro Hockey League. In this league, the Indian team has taken the third place with 15 points by playing 8 matches so far. Now the Indian team will play the remaining eight matches of the European leg in May-June. The team includes 10 players from Punjab including Captain Harmanpreet Singh.

In Badminton, Ludhiana’s Dhruv Kapila along with his partner Arjuna won the men’s doubles title of the Uganda International Challenge.

Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer congratulated the Punjabi players on their victories and attributed their success to their hard work and the guidance provided by their coaches. He said that the tangible results are a testament to the efficacy of the new sports policy, crafted under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Maan. Additionally, he highlighted that Punjab’s athletes are gearing up for the Paris Olympic Games, expressing confidence that Punjabi sportsmen will participate on a large scale in the upcoming Olympics.

Gold medal winners to get Rs 25 lakh each, Silver – Rs 15 lakh; Bronze – Rs 10 lakh

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has approved a financial incentive for the Armed Forces personnel who bagged medals in the 19^th Asian Games and 4^th Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China in September-October 2023. For both Asian Games as well as Asian Para Games, Gold medal winners will receive a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh each, Silver medal winners Rs 15 lakh each and Bronze medal winners Rs 10 lakh each.

Several Service athletes had made the nation proud in the Games, with the Raksha Mantri felicitating them on their return and commending them for their outstanding performance. He had also approved cash rewards to 45 medal winners, including seven Para athletes. These 45 athletes won 09 Gold, 18 Silver and 17 Bronze medals in the Asian Games and 01 Gold, 04 Silver and 02 Bronze medals in Asian Para Games.

This financial incentive, announced by the Ministry of Defence for the Armed Forces personnel for the first time, will further motivate these athletes to exhibit an even better performance at qualifying events of the Paris Olympics Games 2024 for which they are currently preparing.

CM Dr. Yadav honours players with “Pankh” Sports Achievement Award 2024

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that sports have been important in our country since ancient times.. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, players from across the country are making us proud by winning numerous gold medals in international competitions and Olympic Games. Under the guidance of Prime Minister, preparations for the 2036 Olympic Games have already started in the country. The players from this state have elevated its honour both domestically and internationally. CM Dr. Yadav extended good wishes to the players who were honoured today. CM Dr. Yadav was addressing the “Pankh” Sports Achievement Award 2024 felicitation ceremony. The programme was organised by Bansal News.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that he will leave no stone unturned in providing facilities to the talented sportsman of the state. He expressed hope that the young players of the state boost the reputation of the state and the country. CM Dr. Yadav said that players should focus only on sports so that they can bring glory to the state by performing brilliantly. CM Dr. Yadav said that the women of our country were no less than men. Rani Durgavati and Rani of Jhansi performed amazingly in fencing. They defeated their opponents in battle on many occasions.

Sports and Youth Welfare and Co-operation Minister Shri Vishwas Sarang thanked the organisers for starting the Pankh Sports Achievement Award to encourage the youth. He said that it is the responsibility of the society to support the government. For the development of Madhya Pradesh, full cooperation of the society along with the state government is essential. Players should reach for the sky and bring glory to themselves, their families, society and country. Minister Shri Sarang said that we will make an all-out effort to make the state number one in the field of sports.

A book published on the achievements of Prime Minister Shri Modi was presented to Chief Minister Dr. Yadav. In the programme, a poem by Prime Minister Shri Modi was shown through video. A short film of the works done by CM Dr. Yadav for the development of the state was also screened. Players, sports lovers and general public from different districts of the state were present in the programme. At the beginning of the programme, Shri Sunil Bansal gave the welcome address.

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has approved Rs 11 lakh to Madhya Pradesh Olympic Association from the amount of “Chief Minister Voluntary Grant Head” for the year 2023-24. Collector Bhopal has been directed to pay the said amount to Madhya Pradesh Olympic Association.

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Dr. Yadav had announced an assistance amount of Rs 11 lakh to Madhya Pradesh Olympic Association in the felicitation ceremony of Madhya Pradesh Olympic Association at Samanvay Bhawan on Monday.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today addressed Khelo India University Games being held across the seven states in the Northeast via a video message. PM Modi highlighted the mascot of the Khelo India University Games, i.e. ‘Ashtalakshmi’ in the shape of a butterfly. PM who often calls the Northeast states ‘Ashtalakshmi’ said “making a butterfly the mascot in these games also symbolizes how the aspirations of the North East are getting new wings.”

Conveying his best wishes to athletes, the Prime Minister complimented them for creating a grand image of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ in Guwahati. “Play wholeheartedly, play fearlessly, win for yourself and your team, and even if you lose, do not fret. Every setback is an opportunity to learn”, the Prime Minister said

Reflecting on the nationwide sports initiatives, Prime Minister Modi  mentioned the ongoing Khelo India University Games in the Northeast, Khelo India Winter Games in Ladakh, Khelo India Youth Games in Tamil Nadu, Beach Games in Diu,  and remarked, “I am pleased to witness sports events being organized across every corner of India, from the North to the South and from the West to the East.” He applauded the efforts of various state governments, including the Assam government, for their contribution in promoting sports and providing opportunities for youth to showcase their talents.

Addressing the changing societal perceptions towards sports, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the shift in parental attitudes, noting, previously, parents hesitated to involve their children in sports, fearing it would distract them from academics. He highlighted the evolving mindset where parents now take pride in their children’s achievements in the field, be it at the state, national, or international level.

Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of celebrating and honouring athletes’ achievements, stating, “Just as academic achievements are celebrated, we must develop a tradition of honouring those who excel in sports.” He emphasized the need to learn from the NorthEast region’s rich sports culture, where sports are celebrated fervently, inspiring athletes across disciplines i.e. from football to athletics, badminton to boxing, weightlifting to chess. Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that athletes participating in the Khelo India University Games would not only gain valuable experiences but also contribute to the advancement of sports culture throughout the nation.

The Prime Minister highlighted the evolving ecosystem of opportunities for the youth, stating, “Whether it’s Khelo India, TOPS, or other initiatives, a new ecosystem of possibilities is being created for our young generation.” He emphasized the government’s efforts to create a conducive environment for athletes, from training facilities to scholarships, and a record budget allocation of over 3500 crore rupees for sports this year.

Prime Minister Modi proudly shared India’s success in global sporting events. He celebrated India’s ability to compete on the international stage, citing remarkable achievements in various tournaments, including the World University Games where Indian athletes secured unprecedented success, winning a total of 26 medals in 2023 from just 4 in 2019. He also mentioned record medal haul in the Asian Games. “This is not just numbers of medals, these are proofs of what our athletes can achieve if they are helped with a scientific approach”, he added.

Reflecting on the values instilled through sports, Prime Minister Modi emphasized, “Success in sports requires more than just talent; it demands temperament, leadership, teamwork, and resilience.” He encouraged the youth to embrace sports not only for physical fitness but also for developing essential life skills, stating, “Those who play, also flourish.”

Prime Minister Modi urged the athletes to explore the beauty of the North East region beyond the sports arena. He encouraged them to embark on post-event adventures, capture memories, and share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #NorthEastMemories. Additionally, he suggested learning a few local phrases to engage with the communities they visit, enhancing their cultural experience. PM Modi asked them to experiment with Bhashini App too.

He also hailed the Nari Shakti for excelling in sports.

To make Punjab the leading state in the field of sports again, under the efforts of the state government led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, a Sports Code has been drafted for the Sports associations to conduct the sports events smoothly across the state.

Divulging the details, Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that the Sports Department has drafted Sports Code with the suggestions of experts for the better performance of the various Sports Associations of the state while supplementing the ongoing efforts for the betterment of sports. Public opinion has also been sought before implementing this code so that it can be implemented more effectively and efficiently.

Meet Hayer further said that a draft copy of the code has been uploaded on the department’s website www.pbsports.punjab.gov.in to seek suggestions from sports persons, associations and the general public before implementing the sports code. Anyone interested can send suggestions about the code to the Department’s email dir.sportspb@punjab.gov.in till 10 March 2024 so that public opinion and suggestions from sports people can be incorporated before finalizing the Code.

The Sports Minister said that the State Government has also implemented the new Sports policy efficaciously after taking suggestions from the general public, which brought good results in the Asian Games when the players of Punjab broke the record of 72 years and bagged record 20 medals. Now the Sports department has also prepared for the implementation of the Sports Code, which will greatly improve the management of sports in the state.

DISBURSES CASH PRIZE WORTH RS 33.83 CRORE TO 168 MEDAL WINNER PLAYERS IN ASIAN AND NATIONAL GAMES

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday said that promotion of sports culture can be the most effective tool in the state government’s crusade against drugs.

Addressing the gathering during a function to distribute Rs 33.83 crore to 168 medal winner players in Asian and National games held at the Municipal Bhawan, the Chief Minister said that with the promotion of sports the unbounded energy of the youth is being utilised for excelling in sports. He said that the youth who are involved in sports have no time even to look at drugs because they are using their all might to excel in their respective fields. Bhagwant Singh Mann envisioned that this will go a long way in eliminating the curse of drugs from the state and making the youth an equal partner in social economic development of the state.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is judiciously spending every single penny for the progress of the state and welfare of its people. He said that the state government has checked the pilferage of the public money effectively and now this money is being spent for the welfare of the common man. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the sole aim of the state government is to ensure the progress and prosperity of the state.

Congratulating all the players for their rare feat in the field of sports, the Chief Minister said that this is a historic day as all the players have converged here for this function. He said that it is a dream come true for him as the functions for celebrating happiness are being now held in state. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that every week such functions are now being held across the state and he is fortunate to head the state at this time.

The Chief Minister said that the players had worked hard to achieve these goals and bag medals both in the national and international arena. He said that the players had proven that given a chance they can achieve any goal with their sheer hard work and determination. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Punjabis are born entrepreneurs and leaders due to which they have proved their mettle across the globe.

Slamming the opposition for their frivolous statements, the Chief Minister said that everyone wants to save Punjab but one is telling who has ruined the state. He said that they have taken charge of office only 20 months back but these people and families have ruled the state for a long time. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that these people have mercilessly plundered the common man and the state but now they are trying to mislead the people through such statements.

The Chief Minister said that these leaders always boast that they are from the quotas of their so-called leaders of ‘high command’ but it is a fact that he has been elected as the head of the state from the quota of Punjabis. He said that his every action is aimed at the well being of the people and development of the state and no compromise will ever be made for this. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that his actions are guided by the great freedom fighters like Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha and others, who always inspire him to work tirelessly and selflessly for the people of state.

The Chief Minister said that the state government has taken path breaking initiatives for the welfare of common man adding that to check the fatality rate due to road accidents in the state on one hand and to streamline the movement of traffic on the roads of the state on the other, the state government has launched Sadak Surakhya Force. He said that the first of its kind specialized force will act as a pivotal to save several precious lives that are lost in road accidents daily in Punjab. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this force will be entrusted with the task of checking rash driving, streamlining vehicular movement on roads and others to check the road accidents adding that it will reduce the burden on cops deployed in Police stations.

The Chief Minister said that in the first phase a force of 1300 cops will be recruited for this specialized force. He said that initially 144 vehicles equipped with ultra modern gadgets will be deployed after every 30 kilometres to man the roads. Bhagwant Singh Mann further said that the vehicles will also have a complete medical kit for providing emergency treatment to any person in need adding that it will save more than 2500 precious lives of people annually.

The Chief Minister said that the state has created history by purchasing Goindwal power plant owned by a private company GVK Power at a cost of Rs 1080 crore. He said that for the first time this reverse trend has started that the government has purchased any private power plant whereas in the past the state governments used to sell their assets to the favorite individuals at ‘throw away’ prices. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this is a step forward towards providing cheap power to the residents of the state.

The Chief Minister said that as the head of the state his every action is aimed at ensuring the progress of the state and prosperity of its people. He said that unfortunately his predecessors were never bothered about the state but they were more concerned about their vested political interests. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that in dearth of any tangible issue against him, the rejected leaders of the state are baselessly criticizing him daily without any halt.

The Chief Minister said that now complete transformation is being witnessed in hospitals, schools and new medical colleges are coming up for the well being of the common man.  He said that these decisions are being taken only by those who are aware about the problems of the people at grass root levels. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the traditional political parties have ruined the state and now they are shamelessly making huge talks of morality.

The Chief Minister said that the hard work and resilience of the Punjabis is unmatched owing to which they excel in every sphere. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this spirit of Punjabis can be duly used for taking the state ahead adding that the state government is fully committed to it. He said that no stone is being left unturned for this noble cause and the day is not far away when Punjab will emerge as a frontrunner state in every sphere.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is making concerted efforts to promote sporting culture in the state by giving world class facilities to the people. He said that financial assistance is being given to players to prepare for the competitions besides providing them world class grounds and other infrastructure. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this will help the players to carve a niche for themselves in both the national and international events.

The Chief Minister said that the state government has already decided to recruit 1800 Constables and 300 Sub Inspectors every year in Punjab Police for the coming four years to overcome the scarcity of cops. He said that as for these 2100 posts every year around 2.50 lakh candidates apply for these posts so all the aspirants will get involved in academics as well as in improving their physique for clearing the tests. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this is helping in channelizing their unbounded energy in a positive direction and help them in weaning away from the menace of drugs.

The Chief Minister said that it is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that today a cash prize worth Rs 29.25 crore is being handed over to the 32 medal winner players in Asian games from the state. He said that Rs 1 crore has been given to players who had bagged gold medal, Rs 75 lakh to silver medal winners and Rs 50 lakh to players who had won bronze medal. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that prior to this 58 players were given Rs 8 lakh each for the preparations of the Asian games.

The Chief Minister said that for the first time in the post-independence period India had crossed the magic figure of 100 medals in the Asian games by winning 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze medals. He said that Punjabis made a huge contribution in these 107 medals by winning 20 medals during the Asian games. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that 32 players from Punjab bagged eight gold medals, six silver medals and six bronze medals thereby breaking the 72 years old record of Punjab’s performance in these games.

The Chief Minister said that the players from Punjab had bagged seven gold medals each in Asian games held at New Delhi and Jakarta in 1951 and 1962 respectively. However, he said that breaking this record the players from the state had won eight gold medals during the recently concluded Asian games thereby creating a history. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that not only this the maximum tally of medals by players from Punjab was 15 in New Delhi Asian games held in 1951 but now after more than 70 years this record has been broken as Punjabi players had won 20 medals.

The Chief Minister said that in today’s function 136 players who had won medals in National games held at Goa are also being felicitated with cash prize of Rs 4.58 crore. In this way, he said that a total 168 players are being given cash prizes worth Rs 33.83 crore adding that earlier the state government had given funds worth Rs 32.16 crore to the players in various events. Likewise, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Rs 8.69 crore had been already transferred in bank accounts of the medal winner players of the second season of the Khedan Watan Punjab Dian.

The Chief Minister said that after assuming charge of office the state government has so far given Rs 74.68 crore to the players adding that the state government is leaving no stone unturned for the welfare of the players in the state. He envisioned that in the coming times the players from the state will bag more medals adding that this will lead to an era of unprecedented progress and prosperity in the state. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the Punjab government is making concerted efforts for harnessing the immense potential of state youth in the field of sports.
