CHUHAR KHAN: THE GREAT ALGHOZA LEGEND

People of Punjab have surely heard about ChuharKhan who is 80 years of age. He is known for his great musical sense and can be seen playing an Alghoza, a woodwind musical instrument. It took the lockdown due to the pandemic to bring him to light. The legend is a resident of Chottian Village of Sangrur District and goes on to say that in earlier times he used to perform in several cultural events and earned around 10 to 15K a month. Now he lives with his wife and two grandchildren.
His granddaughter is named Soni Bano who is 16 and his grandson Raju Khan is 14. His elder son died in a road accident while the younger one lives separately. Thus, his only income source is his pension. His wife- Shamo Bano is 76 and only get Rs.1500 as pension. Their granddaughter scored 90%in class X but dropped after it due to lack of financial resources. He had applied for pension in Ministry Of Culture, New Delhi and still haven’t heard from them. He has been playing Alghozasince his teenage and people still value him for his rare talent.
Shamo Bano has a weak eyesight now due to which Soni has to look after the household. She is a bright student and her teachers think she should not drop out of school.
He has performed in several great shows but now he has no way to sustain himself during the pandemic. He requested the Ministry Of Culture to have some sort of scheme for artists like him so that they can sustain themselves in their old age. He hopes for his pension to be approved at the earliest so that his granddaughter Soni and grandson Raju can continue going to school further.
