In a major crackdown against illicit liquor mafia ahead of forthcoming assembly elections, Ludhiana Commissionerate Police and excise department jointly conducted raids in a remote island situated deep into the river satluj and destroyed as many as 7000 litres of Lahan.

Divulging the details, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that police teams have deployed drones in this area during the combing operation so as to achieve promising results from the standpoint of surveillance.

Mr. Bhullar added that both the teams conducted search operation in village Bholewal Jadid, Rajapur (Ladhuwal) where about 7000 litres of Lahan was recovered and destroyed subsequently. The team also confiscated equipment used in Lahan storage, he said adding more operations to be carried out in the remote river areas to ensure curb on this illegal activity through intensified combing operations in coming days. He stated thay strict action would be initiated against those found indulged in this malpractice.

Besides police officials, Excise Officer Deewan Chand, Inspectors Harjinder Singh, Mandip Singh took part in this operation in which around six kilometres of areas along the river bank was searched thoroughly.

Meanwhile, the CP reiterated his commitment of free, fair and transparent polls in the city as elaborate arrangements were put in place to ensure peaceful environment during the upcoming polls. He said that no stone would be left untuned to maintain law and order in the city as three contingents of para-military forces have already been deployed in the city besides other beefed up security measures.
