Department of Telecommunications Celebrates Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.

This Mahotsav is dedicated to the people of India who have not only been instrumental in bringing India thus far in its evolutionary journey but also hold within them the power and potential to enable Prime Minister Sh, narendra Modii’s vision of activating India 2.0, fuelled by the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is an embodiment of all that is progressive about India’s socio-cultural, political and economic identity. The official journey of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” commenced on 12th March, 2021 which started a 75 week countdown to our 75th anniversary of Independence and will end post a year on 15th August, 2022.
In the same series, Department of Telecommunications, Punjab Unit headed by Senior Deputy Director General Sh. Naresh Sharma, celebrated the Government of India’s Programme  Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by conducting an Inter College Quiz Competition in collaboration with the Electronics Department of Chandigarh University, at their Gharuan Campus.
A total of 6 teams belonging to following Colleges participated in the Quiz Competition
1. Chandigarh University
2. Punjab Engineering College
3. Chandigarh College of Engineering and Techbnology (CCET)
4. University Institute of Engineering and Technology
5. Chandigarh Group of Colleges
6. Chitkara University
There were four rounds of Quiz held with questions based on History of India, Modern India, Science and Technology and  Current events. The Competition was very stiff. Ultimately the team of Punjab Engineering College emerged as the Winner and team of Chandigarh College of Engineering & Technology stood Runner up in the competition.
Sh. Naresh Sharma, Sr. DDG, DoT Punjab gave a brief on the Telecom growth story of India post Independence .It was informed by him that at the time of independent India, it had 80000 telephone connections which were primarily used by Britishers at that time to govern the country and not for the citizens whereas presently India has 120 crores telephone connections. Thus, the telephone is available at very cheap rate and can be easily afforded by even a low earning citizen of the country.Similarly there has been the explosions in the internet to make the dream of digital india a reality.The Punjab Licensed service area is one of the High density state with tele-density of 126% which is 3rd among the country’s all other LSAs. Presently there are more than 82 crores subscribers using the high speed internet in India and Telecom growth in India.
In the end, Sh. Naresh Sharma, Sr. DDG, DoT and Dr. Sanjeet Singh Dean Research, Chandigarh University gave the awards and Certificates to the Teams. On this occasion,Dr. Prakash S Math Executive Director (UIE),Dr. Harjot Singh Gill Associate Director(UIE, Chandigarh University, Sh. Balvinder Singh, DDG, DoT,Sh. Khushwant Rai,DDG,,DoT.Dr. Ashutosh Tripathi, HOD, ECE,Dr. Tripti Sharma ,Dr. Simrandeep Singh were present.
The Event was organised by the Officers of DoT Punjab, Sh. Ravinder Kumar, Director, Sh. Sudesh Kumar Chopra, Director, Sh. Puneet Kumar Rajput, Director DoT, Sh. Dheeraj Malhotra, ADG and Ms Nitika, ADET.
On this occasion DoT also conducted a workshop on Myths and facts about the effects of electromagnetic radiations on Human beings and the environment.
