District Police Kargil today organized a program aimed at promoting transparent procedures across enforcement drives for the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign.
The event took place at Conference Hall Baroo, Kargil, and saw participation from key officials including SSP Kargil, Shree Ram R; Dy SP HQ, Nitin Yadav; Dy SP DAR Tundup Dorjay, and several other representatives from various departments.
The program featured a detailed presentation by SSP Kargil on the roles and responsibilities of the police in enforcing laws related to Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (COTPA).
Dr. Jalil, DNO, NTCP, emphasized the significance of the COTPA Act-2003 and the Health Department’s role during enforcement efforts. Mohd Sultan, incharge Narcotics, further elaborated on the COTPA Act and the Prohibition of Smoking in Public Places Rules of 2008.
A representative from the State Taxes Department provided insights into the Goods and Services Tax (GST) applicable to tobacco products, underscoring the financial implications of tobacco sales.
Throughout the discussions, SSP Kargil addressed concerns raised by participants and reinforced the crucial message that no tobacco products should be sold to minors under the age of 18 or within 100 yards of educational institutions. He emphasized the importance of prominently displaying signage in shops to promote compliance.
The SSP expressed gratitude to all participating departments and attendees for their commitment to the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign, urging continued cooperation to achieve a healthier future for the youth of Kargil.
