DOES FASTING IMPACT YOUR HEALTH?

Fasting is getting trendy recently. In India, fasting has been practiced by people since ancient times because of it’s innumerable health benefits. Fasting means not consuming any sort of food or drinks for a defined period. In India, it is a part of the tradition. People fast on several occasions according to their beliefs. Have you ever wondered why people have been practicing it since ancient times? Here are some changes that happen in your body when you practice fasting –

1. Temporary Weight Loss – People who are fat think that fasting can help them lose weight. It can be true but you will not lose any weight permanently and it might appear again within 2 days. The idea is that when you are fasting, the body is forced to utilise the excessive fat to create energy in the body.

2. Severe Headache – Even though fasting can help give rest to your immune system, it can also cause you frequent and severe headaches. This is because fasting impacts your body functioning. When there is no energy left you might start feeling dizzy and experience a bad headache. Thus, do not consider fasting if you are too weak.

3. Dehydration- Fasting means not eating and drinking anything for a limited time. This can leave your body dehydrated when it utilises all the water present in the body. This can cause excessive accumulation of urea in the kidney and even lead to infections. A person should at least drink 8 glasses of water in a day for healthy functioning of the body.

4. Lower Sodium Level – Fasting can severely reduce the sodium levels in the body. This can upset the normal functioning of the body. One may experience headaches and nausea. Sodium is essential to help body retain important nutrients.
