DWSS launches “Satyagrah Se Swachhagrah Rath Yatra” from Jang-e- Azaadi Memorial to Khatkar Kalan Memorial

To celebrate the 75 years of Independence under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign’, the Department of Water supply and Sanitation, Punjab (DWSS) has launched a Satyagrah Se Swachhagrah Rath Yatra from Jang-e- Azaadi Memorial, Kartarpur to Khatkar Kalan Memorial SBS Nagar on September 15, 2021.

The Rath yatra was launched by Sh. Surinder Chaudhary, MLA Kartarpur, Guest of Honour, from Jang-e- Azaadi in the presence of Smt. Parneet Shergill Additional Secretary cum Mission Director Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), Sh. Karanjit Singh Joint Director Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Government of India, Sh. Jaspreet Singh Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), Sh. Kuldeep Singh Saini Chief Engineer (North), Sh. RK Sharma State Coordinator Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) and Sh. NP Singh, Superintending Engineer (Jalandhar)

While addressing the media Sh. Surinder Chaudhary emphasised that gram panchayats should be motivated to the take up development projects such as efficient management of solid and liquid waste in their villages. Further he told that we are fortunate that this rath yatra has launched from this place that has historical significance and will spread awareness among the rural communities.

Sh. Kuldeep Singh Saini, Chief Engineer while welcoming the dignitaries apprised about the Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign and various activities to be conducted under this program. He told that during the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), District Jalandhar was amongst the front runner districts to be declared as ODF and now focusing on ODF Plus. He also appealed that the awareness should be promoted through all mass and social media platforms.

Smt. Parneet Shergill apprised that Rath yatra launched today is part of the 100 days’ campaign launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India and it will cover approximately 80-100 villages mainly from three districts Jalandhar, Kapurthala and SBS Nagar. The aim of the rath yatra is to generate awareness among the villagers about the various components and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Phase 2 and apprised that its main feature is convergence with various Central & State sponsored schemes.

In addition to it she also insisted that Gram Panchayat will be guided about the 15th Finance commission grants and its optimal utilization by taking solid and liquid waste management projects in their villages.

Executive Engineers Sh. Nitin Kalia, Sh. Harinder Singh, Sh. Sukhpinder Singh and Sh. Gurpreet Singh from Jallandhar and Kapurthala along with Sh. Sarbjit singh, SDE Sanitation, Sh. Gagandeep walia, SDE Sanitation Jalandhar, Sh. Charanpreet Singh JE Sanitation, Sh. Rohit JE Sanitation were also present in the event.
