A Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) of capacity 40 MLD for dyeing clusters of Focal Point, Ludhiana was inaugurated by the Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Cabinet Minister, Department of Industries & Commerce, Information Technology, Science & Technology, Punjab in the presence of Sanjay Talwar MLA, Ludhiana East, Mamta Ashu, MC Councillor, Harpreet Sandhu, Chairman, Punjab Infotech, besides several others.

This CETP having total cost of Rs. 84.50 Crore including conveyance system of about 25 KM which is amounting to Rs. 24 Crore. There are 73 beneficiary dyeing industries located in the Focal Points, Phase I to VIII, Ludhiana are member of this CETP. The construction of CETP has been completed by M/s Larson and Turbo a renowned name in engineering and construction. The CETP is based on State-of-Art, Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) Technology.

Professor (Dr.) Adarsh Pal Vig, Chairman Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) welcomed the chief guest and informed that PPCB is the regulatory body having duty to control and prevention of pollution in the State of Punjab. The Punjab Pollution Control Board is working on all fronts simultaneously for conservation and rejuvenation of rivers and ecology of Punjab. The inauguration of CETP is similar to the inauguration of temple / religious place / historical monuments and is the best service to the mankind, environment and society. This CETP was need of hour as individual small scale industries could not  operate their ETP effectively due to lack of skilled manpower. He also thanked the Punjab Govt., SPV, L & T (CETP Operator), PDA, Local Administration and local leadership for their valuable and financial support in making this important project.

Ashok Makkar, Chairman PDA thanked the dignitary on stage and said that the successful commissioning of CETP 40 MLD is outcome of hard work of industrialist. With the commissioning of this CETP, the dyeing industries of Ludhiana have come forward to remove the blame of polluting the Budha Nallah forever.

While speaking on behalf of Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Mamta Ashu congratulated the industrialist of Ludhiana for such a big step in protecting the environment. The industries have installed their CETP for treatment of industrial effluent and work on control of domestic effluent in Budha Nallah is in full swing meeting with the timelines and likely to be commissioned within  one and half year.

Sanjay Talwar MLA dedicated this CETP to people of Ludhiana and especially to his constituency i.e. Ludhiana East. He also thanked the industrialist for providing employment to the people of his constituency. He informed that the major problem of sewerage overflow in his constituency has been solved with the commissioning of this CETP as the sewerage and industrial effluent were being carried out through common sewerage system. He further requested the industrialist to take steps to take initiative for control of air pollution in the area of his constituency.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest Gurkirat Singh Kotli extended greetings for New Year and inauguration of CETP 40 MLD. He said that the younger generation is very much aware about the environmental issues and these issues can be taken care by involving technology in the field of environment such as this CETP. The Govt. of Punjab has introduced faceless system to extend its full support to facilitate the industry. This has also resulted in huge investment in Punjab.

Krunesh Garg, Member Secretary, Punjab Pollution Control Board while extending thanks to the dignitaries, industrialist, Press, different departments and general public has informed that the successful commissioning of CETP and release of 200 Cusec fresh water into Budha Nallah is like dream come true in rejuvenation and restoration of Budha Nallah. Apart from ECO-RESTORATION of Environment, this CETP will certainly help to boost textile business in Ludhiana and overall development of the State.
