CEC Kargil takes stock of pace of progress of works under Tourism Sector

KARGIL SEPTEMBER 04, 2020:  Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan reviewed the pace of progress on the works under Tourism Sector in the district during a meeting of the concerned officers at Council Secretariat here today.

Executive Councillor for Tourism Er Phunsog Tashi, Director Tourism Ladakh Kunzes Angmo, Chief Executive Officer, Kargil Development Authority (KDA) Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani, Chief Executive Officer, Zanskar Development Authority (ZDA) Sonam Dorjay, AD Tourism Kargil Aga Syed Toha, Engineers of KDA and ZDA besides other concerned officers attended the meeting.

The CEC inquired from the officers about the physical and financial progress of various ongoing as well as approved works under the Special Development Package (SDP), UT Sector Budget, Capex Budget and Swadesh Darshan under Himalayan Circuit Scheme.

The meeting had detailed discussions over the status of AA accorded and tendering of different works under the Annual Capex Budget including the construction of Sindhu Ghat at Garkone, development of Buddha statues at Karchay Khar, Drass and Apati, development of amusement parks and picnic spots at Chiktan, Drass, Sankoo, Trespone, Tai Suru, Damsna, Barchay, Lhalung and other spots in the district.

Other works included the construction of Hall of Fame-War Memorial at Kargil, development of Nun Kun Base, construction of link road to Twin Springs Yarkashing and other related projects.

It was informed during the meeting that AA has been accorded in case of most of these works while as the tendering process is presently underway.

With regard to various works in the case of ZDA, the officers concerned informed the meeting that AA has already been accorded in case of works under the Annual Capex Budget works including the construction of traditional gates at Penzila, Manayringmo and Shingkula Phase 1st, construction of cultural cum multi-utility center at Karsha, river rafting points at Remala, Shamuling bad Youlang Phase 1st, procurement of equipments for development of adventure sports like rafting, paragliding, cycling, snow ice skiing and ice skating, development of mini lake at Sani, development of heritage palace at Padum, construction of amusement park at Zanskar , development of waterfall at Sheela and other related works while as the tendering is under process.

      The status of the implementation of works approved under SDP also came up for discussion during the meeting and the Director Tourism apprised the CEC about various projects like construction of convention center in Kargil, tourism publicity and promotion outreach, facade makeover of Kargil Market, development of heritage sites and other related projects.

It was decided during the meeting that the UT Administration Ladakh would be requested to ensure that the LAHDC, Kargil is consulted by the executing agencies before formulating DPRs for executing work on these projects in the district.

With regard to the issue of pending liabilities in the case of various works completed under Swadesh Darshan under Himalayan Circuit Scheme, the CEC instructed the CEOs of KDA and ZDA to nominate an officer to pursue the matter with the authorities in J&K UT.

While underlining the importance of the completion of all projects under different schemes, the CEC stressed officers to work in tandem and close coordination to ensure timely completion of all paper works besides also ensuring the kick start and proper monitoring of works on the projects yet to be started so that they are completed in a timely manner.

The CEC asked officers to lay emphasis on tourism promotion activities by taking concrete steps to explore the undiscovered tourist destinations and trekking routes and also engage private players to augment the tourism sector which has the potential to emerge as one the main source of livelihood to the local population.
