GDC Drass celebrates International Women’s Day 2021 

KARGIL, MARCH 08, 2021: Students and staff of Government Degree College (GDC) Drass organized International Women’s Day at the college seminar hall today.

The programmed was attended by the Principal, faculty members and students of 4th and 5th semester.

The programme began with the introductory speech by Lecturer Urdu, Liyaqat Ali. He stressed upon the practices of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) with respect to female community in general and female family members in particular. He mentioned how the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) used to respect his daughter Hazrat Fatima Zahra (SA).

Principal, GDC Drass Dr Amjad Ali, in his welcome address stressed upon the students especially girl students to seek knowledge and excel in their studies. He also asked the students to be bold and courageous to face any challenges in future by working very hard and remain focused, adding he expressed his satisfaction with the students of Drass being bold and urged them to channelize their potential in the right direction to become successful in their career.

Many faculty members and students of the college also spoke on the occasion.

Lecturer Economics Jigmet Chondol while speaking on the occasion deliberated upon role of women in the society. Whether it is a boy or girl, everyone should be treated equal in society and the role of women is not only limited to household chores, but also to revolutionize the world, she stated. She also said that to achieve this, mindset needs to be changed, so that women may get equal freedom and opportunities in every field like men.

Lecturer History Dr Rinchen Dolma who also spoke on the occasion deliberated upon the theme of 2021 International Women’s Day “Choose to Challenge”. She expressed that women face a lot of problems in the society, like gender discrimination and harassment. However, in order to overcome such challenges, one should not run away from them, rather one should take these problems as challenges and face them bravely and courageously. This is only possible when we work hard in the field of education and excel, she said.

Among the students, Arifa Banoo and Rubina Banoo of 5th semester delivered talks on women empowerment and discussed the role of women in the modern world and how they can face the challenges through education.
