INDIANS ARE COMPROMISING THEIR SECURITY BY USING WEAK PASSWORDS

The technology has advanced with time and we have new things coming up everyday. The use of internet has become a major part of our lives today. Everything is being done online. The trend of social media is also increasing wherein people create social media accounts and keep posting and reading stuff there. Almost everybody has social media accounts today. However, people use simple passwords so that they can remember them easily. However, by doing this, they are compromising their security. Easy passwords can either be guessed by any one or can be cracked easily by hackers. This way, we could lose access to our accounts and hackers could misuse our personal content and information.

In a recent report, it was found that 1 out of 4 Indians use simple and easy passwords due to which they fall prey to cyber crime. Although, the report also stated that 55% Indians tend to change their passwords to often to keep their security high. Through further deep analysis, it was found that 76% Indians tend to use strong passwords while 32% use easy passwords. Several people also tend to save their passwords at their phones. If their phone is stolen or lost, the criminal also gets access to all their passwords. Another thing that was noted was, people are unaware regarding the process of changing passwords. Plenty of them claimed that they are using the same password since years.

A group of people also told the researchers that they usually ask other people to help them change their passwords and are unaware of cyber crime. Thus, though India is advancing with each day, people are still lacking general awareness due to which they fall prey to fraud. Thus, efforts should be made to spread cyber awareness and one should keep a strong password to protect themselves.
