Khedan Vatan Punjab Diyan have given new lease of life to sports in Punjab, Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer
–Minister inaugurates the state level games

The Khedan Vatan Punjab Diyan – an initiative of Punjab government, has given new lease of life to sports in state. The games have witnessed a whopping participation of 3 lakh players from all the 350 blocks and 12500 villages of the state.
The Minister for Sports, Punjab Mr Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer stated this while inaugurating the state level games at SD College here today. Barnala will play host to players of Netball, basketball and table tennis.
He added that 8000 players will win various positions at the state level games and win cash prizes worth Rs 6 crores. He said that under the stewardship of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann the Khedan Vatan Punjab Diyan are being conducted to bring back sports culture in state. The event has got immense response from players who are participating in large numbers.
Mr Meet Hayer added that at Barnala players of under 14, 17, 21 and 21 to 40 years category will be participating. 14 teams each are participating in under 14 and 17 years age group, while 12 teams are participating under 21 and eight teams are participating in 21 to 40 years age group.
The event started with Chief guest Mr Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer unfurling the flag of sports department. Students of music department and team of giddha of SD College presented cultural items.
Speaking at the event MLA Mr Kulwant Singh Pandori said that this initiative of government has increased common man’s interest in sports and a large number of people are participating in it. MLA Bhadaur Mr Labh Singh Ugoke said that the sports event will prove historical as government has brought all players on same platform through it.
Prominent among others present included AAP district president Gurdeep Singh Batth, SDM Gopal Singh and others. A presentation match or Netball was played between teams of Barnala and Sri Muktsar Sahib
