17 new OOAT centers inaugurated in government health institutions in district

 Patients of drug abuse will get a lot of benefit from new centers: Dr. Adarshpal Kaur

          SAS Nagar, May 18 : Civil Surgeon Dr. Adarshpal Kaur inaugurated an OOAT center at District Hospital here today. After the launch, she said that a total of 17 new O.O A. T. (Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment) centers have been started today at government health institutions across the district, bringing the total number of such centers in the district to 24.

She further said that the new centers in the district would be of great help to the patients of drug abuse as they would be able to avail this facility closer to their homes. Patients are treated absolutely free of cost in these centers. The specialty of the centers is that those addicted to opium, heroin, smack, morphine and its derivatives do not have to go to the drug de-addiction center for treatment and admission. Patients who wish to quit drugs can visit these centers daily for treatment and go home.

A total of seven centers were already functioning at the Government De-addiction and Rehabilitation center in Sector 66 Mohali and government hospitals in Kharar, Derabassi, Lalru, Banur, Kurali and Dhakoli. New centers have come up at District Hospital Mohali, Urban Primary Health Center Phase 1, Phase 7, Phase 11, Urban Primary Health Center at Mundi Kharar, Antala, Primary Health Center at Basauli, Urban Primary Health Center in Zirakpur Preet Colony, Baltana, Primary Health Center in Gharuan, Mazat, Mullanpur Garibdas, Chandon, Nayangaon and Primary Health Centers in Boothgarh, Palheri and Khizrabad.

Dr. Adarshpal Kaur said that the purpose of opening these centers is to provide easy and free treatment to the patients who want to quit drugs. Regular training has been given to the doctors and other staff treating the patients. The doctor starts the treatment after examining the patient and on the spot the patient is given medicine. The center is open daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and also on holidays including Sundays. Patients can come and start their treatment any day. Patients need to bring their Aadhaar card or any other identity card

The patient is registered once and can get the medicine from any such government center across the state by showing the registration number. If a patient wishes to be admitted, he or she may be admitted to the Sector 66 De-addiction Center.

On this occasion, senior medical officer Dr. Vijay Bhagat, Dr. HS Cheema, Psychiatrist Dr Gurmukh Singh, Dr. Babandeep Kaur, Nursing Officer Jaswinder Kaur, Health Inspector Bhupinder Singh Dahri and others were present.
