As per the directions of Ld. Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar Mohali and under the supervision of Sh. Virinder Aggarwal, Ld. District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Barnala, a Legal Awareness Programme has been organized by District Legal Services Authority, Barnala under NALSA-Pan India Awareness and Outreach Programme, in collaboration with National Commission for Women.

In this Legal Awareness programme, Advocates, Anganwadi Workers, Asha Workers, Police Officials etc. have participated and they were made aware about Domestic Violence Act, Hindu Law specially relating to Right to property, Law regarding Abortion and Female Health etc.,

by resource persons namely Ms. Sucheta Ashish Dev, Ld. Chief Judicial Magistrate, Barnala, Ms. Anu Sharma, Retainer Lawyer, District Legal Services Authority, Barnala.

They were also made aware about Free Legal Aid Scheme that any person belonging to Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe, A woman or Child, a person with disability such as suffering from blindness/leprosy/ loco motor etc.,

a person with an annual income of less than Rs. 3 lakh, is entitled to get the benefits under Free Legal Aid Scheme. Further, they were made aware about Mediation Process, National Lok Adalat to be held on 11.12.2021 and Permanent Lok Adalat. Besides this, they were also made aware about Punjab Victim Compensation Scheme that as per scheme, compensation is paid to the victim or his/her dependent (s), who have suffered loss or injury as a result of crime and who required rehabilitation by the Legal Services Authorities. The compensation can be recommended by Court under section 357-A (2) and (3) Cr.P.C. or by District Legal Services Authority, in case of compensation not covered under any other Scheme and under the same, medical help and legal aid is provided. As per schedule, compensation amount for Acid Attack is Rs. 3 lakh (minimum amount), death due to acid attack-Rs.5 lakh, 100% medical treatment reimbursement including medicine, food, bedding and plastic surgery/reconstructive surgery etc., Victim of Rape- Rs. 3 lakh, Murder with Rape- Rs. 4 lakh, Physical abuse of minor- Rs. 2 lakh, Death- Rs.2 lakh, Permanent disability-Rs. 2 lakh, Partial disability- Rs. 1 lakh, Burns affecting greater than 25% of the body (excluding acid attack cases)- Rs- 2 lakh, loss of foetus- Rs 50,000/-, loss of fertility- Rs.1.5 lakh and if the victim is less than 14 years of age, the compensation shall be increased by 50%.

This awareness programme was also attended by Ms. Kiranpreet Kaur Dhami, Member Punjab Commission for Women, through Zoom Meeting. She made aware the participants regarding the working of women commission alongwith the procedure followed by it on the received complaints. She also made aware the participants as to how a complaint can be filed before the women commission.
