MCM holds webinar on Business Opportunities in Bakery and Confectionery

To mark ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Department of Industries, UT, Chandigarh organised a webinar on ‘Business Opportunities in Bakery and Confectionery’ under the PMFME Scheme of Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India. Mr. Jagjit Singh, Director Industries, Chandigarh graced the webinar as the Chief Guest. Inaugurating the webinar, Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava informed that the PMFME Scheme is an endeavour towards creating a self-reliant India by providing financial, technical and business support to entrepreneurial ventures. She further added that MCM is proud to be the only State Level Training Institute in the UT region to be nominated by Chandigarh Administration for providing training to budding entrepreneurs in the field of bakery and confectionery under ‘One District One Product’ which is a positive step towards employment generation and overall development of the region. Mr. Jagjit Singh summed up the entire backdrop, objective and mission of PMFME scheme and reiterated the significance of the scheme in building a self-reliant India. He added that since Chandigarh is predominantly an urban settlement with less agricultural produce, bakery and confectionery products have been adopted to provide the benefit of this scheme to young entrepreneurs.
The resource persons for the webinar were Mr. Paramjeet Singh, Director, RCED, Chandigarh, Ms. Baljeet Kaur, Director, VMAD, Chandigarh and MCM’s Food Science faculty Dr. Vandana Sharma, Dr. Sandeep Kaur and Dr. Gurpreet Kaur. Motivating the participants to benefit from government schemes like Skill India and Start up India, Mr. Paramjeet Singh stressed on the need to promote entrepreneurial culture in the country. Ms. Baljeet Kaur elaborated the branding and marketing aspects of entrepreneurship and said that skill, product marketing and money management are the key ingredients in making a venture successful. Dr. Vandana Sharma dwelt on the two components of PMFME scheme namely Self Reliance and Vocal for Local. Dr. Sandeep Kaur’s presentation revolved around licencing and registration of food business operator with FSSAI wherein she explained the process of online FSSAI registration. At the end of the webinar, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur gave an overview of the scenario of bakery industry world wide, nationally as well as at regional level. The participants found the webinar highly informative and enlightening.
