MCM NSS donates for visually impaired students

Keeping up with the NSS motto of ‘Not me, but you’, the NSS units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organised a donation drive. The main aim of this fund-raising drive was to support and contribute to the welfare of blind students who had faced difficult time during the lockdown period. The drive was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava who whole-heartedly supported and contributed to this noble cause. Dr. Bhargava lauded this thoughtful initiative of the college’s NSS units and called upon the students to work towards building an inclusive world. She asserted that for a progressive and equitable society, it is imperative that the youth come forward and create a better world through their considerate acts of kindness. During the drive, the NSS volunteers along with teaching and non-teaching staff members contributed funds through both online and offline mode. The fund thus collected was then donated to the Institute for the Blind, Sector 26, Chandigarh. Dr. Nisha Bhargava alongwith NSS Programme Officers– Dr Pallvi Rani and Dr Purnima Bhandari, and NSS volunteers paid a visit to the Institute and handed over the cheque to Sh. J.S. Jayara, Principal, Institute for the Blind. Sh. Jayara expressed gratitude towards the staff members and NSS volunteers for coming forward and raising funds to help the institute. Addressing the volunteers, he urged them to make conscious efforts to make this world a better place for everyone including the specially-abled ones. Sh. B.D. Sharma, Secretary, Society for the Blind was also present on this occasion and enlightened the volunteers about the working of the Society and how contributions made by people play a crucial role in lives of specially-abled persons. The NSS volunteers also interacted with the visually impaired students and got the opportunity to know about Braille texts, audio recording studio and special software such as JAWS from Dr. Rakesh Sharma, IT In-charge at the Institute for the Blind, who not only explained them about the purpose and usage of such informative technological tools but also urged them to come forward and contribute for the education of the specially abled students. The volunteers found the visit extremely fulfilling and resolved to work towards betterment of the society.
