Religious heads resolve observance of Muharram amidst strict COVID-19 SOPs

 KARGIL AUGUST 20, 2020: To discuss the arrangements being put in place by the Administration in connection with observance of the ensuing Muharram-ul- Haram in Sankoo and Suru areas, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan in presence of the Executive Councilor for Social Welfare and Chairman Jamiat ul Ulema Al Gadeer TSG Block Aga Syed Mujtaba Mosavi and Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary convened a meeting of the religious heads and sub divisional officers at Dak Bungalow Sankoo here today.

SSP Kargil Dr Vinod Kumar, ASP Kargil Iftikhar Talib Choudhary, SDM Sankoo Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani, representatives of Anjuman e Sahab Zaman Sankoo, Anjman e Inquilab Mehdi Suru, Maktab e Imam Raza Sankoo and other concerned religious heads and sub divisional officers were present in the meeting.

During the course of the meeting, threadbare discussion was held about the necessary measures and required arrangements for the holding of mourning congregations and processions during Muharram while strictly observing the SOPs in view of the present COVID-19 pandemic situation.

The meeting decided that special arrangements for observance of Muharram congregations and processions would be put in place this year in view of the emerging situation due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The CEC and DC informed the religious heads that SOPs being framed by the District Administration with due consultation with the religious organizations for observance of Muharram in the district will be issued shortly.

It was decided during the meeting that Muharram congregations and processions in Sankoo and Suru areas will be held by all the religious organizations with limited number of mourners amidst strict observance of all SOPs including proper social distancing, usage of masks and sanitizers, sanitization of the religious place after the congregations are over and other necessary measures. It was also decided that considering the COVID-19 pandemic scare, persons below 10 years and above 60 years will not be permitted in the congregations.

The representatives of all religious organizations assured the CEC and DC of all out support and cooperation from their side in ensuring the observance of Muharram while keeping in mind the safety of the people by religiously following the COVID-19  SOPs .

The religious expressed their resolve to take concrete measures to held village wise mourning congregations with least number of mourners besides also arranging to organize congregations in open spaces wherever possible. They also assured the CEC and DC that the SOPs issued by the District Administration for 9th, 10th and 13th Muharram congregations and processions in Sankoo and Suru areas will be followed in letter and spirit.

As regards to the holding of mourning congregations in the Imam Baras in different hamlets and villages, the CEC said that the concerned religious heads, Sarpanchs and Mohalla committees will frame SOPs under the guidance of the Administration so that the congregations are held without compromising the COVID-19 preventive SOPs and norms.

The CEC sought active support and cooperation of all religious organizations to ensure safe, smooth and hassle free observance of Muharram while following the SOPs in letter and spirit to as to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the district.

Meanwhile, the CEC and DC stressed on the sub divisional officers to make all timely arrangements with regard to uninterrupted power and water supply, medicare facilities, sanitation and other related arrangements so that the people do not face any inconvenience.
