Observance of International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 2nd  December, 2022

The Department of Community Education and Disability Studies observed an International day of Persons with Disabilities on 2nd December, 2022 at Govt. Model High School, Sector 25 Chandigarh. The theme of the programme was “Innovation for Disability –Inclusive Development in Reducing Inequality with Colours. Two events were held. The 1st event was a drawing competition among identified children with special needs and among children having learning difficulty at primary level. The total no. of participants in the drawing completion was 50. The 2nd event was rally held by the students of Department of Community Education and school students of sector 25 Chandigarh (U.T.). Total participants in the programme were 200.The programme was sponsored by Municipal Councillor, Mr. Sachin  Galav  of Ward -13.

Prof.(Dr.) Anuradha Sharma, Chairperson said that the biggest obstacle for the children is not their disability, but the society is “not having faith” in their abilities and role of the society is to understand the persons affected by the disabilities.  The events like the drawing, sports activities /games go a long way in helping these children to develop confidence. This drawing competition helps the children to expand their abilities in an innovative ways, to interact with the world and provide him with a new set of skills for self expression and communication and think about new innovative technology used for developing him equality.

Prof. (Dr.)Renu Vig, DUI,  Panjab University,  Chandigarh, said that these types of events are very fruitful, we have to use different type of technology to reduce the inequality. Dr.Md.  Saifur Rahman,. Mr. Nitin Raj and Md. Taukir Alam, supporting staff and all students of the department of Community Education and Disability Studies and Principal Mr. Rajinder Singh and school teachers of the GMHS, Sector 25  graced the occasion of International day of Persons with Disabilities. They motivated/ encouraged the students to take participation in different types of activities and said that these activities develop confidence and students can able to express themselves.

The drawing competition was held between identified CWSN  and children with learning difficulties.  The prizes were distributed among two groups. In the Ist Group Children with Special Needs were included in which Ist was Alok Class 10th D, 2nd with Mafi class 7th C and Kanchan 9th class. Children with learning difficulties in which Ist was Tohaura Class 4th 2nd was Ronak class 6th and 3rd was Palak Class 6th. Mohini and Kunal also got prize for their creative activity.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Saifur Rehman
