Oral Cancer: Causes, Symptoms and Preventive Measures

Oral cancer refers to cancer that develops in the oral cavity, which includes the lips, base of the tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, hard and soft palates, sinuses, tonsils, vallecula, and pharynx (throat).

Additionally, the human papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted infection, is a recognized risk factor for oropharyngeal malignancies.

Symptoms:

  • Any changes to the lips, gums, cheeks, or other internal mouth parts, such as swelling, thickness, lumps, rough patches, or erosion.
  • White or red spots in the mouth
  • Bleeding from mouth
  • Any part of the face, mouth, or neck that is numb, painful, or sensitive.
  • Sores that are painful and stay for to week.
  • Having the sensation that something is at the back of the throat
  • Difficulty while speaking, moving the jaw, or using the tongue.
  • A persistent sore throat or voice change
  • A headache or ear pain
  • A sudden drop in weight

  • Quit smoke
  • Limit alcohol intake
  • Eat healthy diet
  • Cover your face while stepping out home to protect yourself from UV rays
  • Apply lip balm frequently in the day.
