Impart professional training to Sewer men regarding safe cleaning of manholes, directs Chief Secretary

Chief Secretary Chairs meeting regarding eliminating the process of manual cleaning of Sewers and septic tanks

Public Health Engineering Department appointed as the nodal department to ensure training

Chandigarh, November 9  :– While considering the safety of the Sewer men involved in the manhole cleaning work, the Haryana Chief Secretary today directed the officers of Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran to impart necessary training to all sewer men to clean up the manholes and septic tanks safely.

        While chairing a meeting regarding this issue, Sh. Sanjeev Kaushal directed the officers concerned to eliminate the process of manual cleaning of sewers and septic tanks.

        As per the directions given by the Chief Secretary, the Public Health Engineering Department has been appointed as the nodal department. For redressal of complaints received regarding this issue, the concerned department should also issue a helpline number, directed Sh. Sanjeev Kaushal.

        The Chief Secretary further directed that the format for sending monthly reports to the government should be simplified so that common people can also use them.

        Sh. Kaushal was apprised that Public Health Engineering Department has imparted training to 1098 Sewer men. Furthermore, the Urban Local Bodies Department has also imparted training to sewermen.

Ensure strict adherence to the Supreme Court’s directions regarding compensation given to Sewer men who had lost their lives during the cleaning, Chief Secretary

        The Chief Secretary said that the directions of the Supreme Court regarding giving compensation to the Sewer men who had lost their lives during the cleaning should be followed meticulously so that the family of the deceased can get full benefits.

        Additional Chief Secretary, Development and Panchayat Department, Sh. Anil Malik, Additional Chief Secretary, Public Health Engineering Department Sh. A.K. Singh, Commissioner and Secretary, Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Department, Sh.  Rajeev Ranjan and many officers also attended the meeting.
