Chandigarh, 3 November 2025
With the tireless efforts of Haryana’s Energy, Transport, and Labour Minister, Sh. Anil Vij, a modern storm water drainage system will now be installed to provide permanent relief to the residents of low-lying and flood-affected areas of Ambala Cantonment from the recurring problem of waterlogging. The State Government has accorded special administrative approval amounting to Rs. 57.42 crore for this ambitious project. The construction of this system will ensure a permanent solution to the problem of waterlogging that occurs every year during the monsoon season in the lower areas of Ambala Cantonment.
It is noteworthy that a storm water drainage system has already been established in the Sadar area of Ambala Cantonment, which has brought considerable relief to local residents. Now, on similar lines, this system will be expanded to other affected areas of Ambala Cantonment as well.
Providing further details, Sh. Vij informed that during the rainy season, several localities in Ambala Sadar used to face severe waterlogging, and there was no proper arrangement for drainage in these areas. Under this new government initiative, storm water drainage systems will be installed in various colonies and localities to ensure smooth and effective discharge of rainwater during monsoon.
He stated that under this project, pumping stations will be set up in Descent Colony, Simran Vihar, Defence Colony, Boh, Kardan, Khokipur, Prabhu-Prempuram, Nanheda, Lal Kurti, BC Bazaar, and several other areas. In addition, pump chambers, boundary walls, pumping machinery, pipelines, and drainage channels will also be constructed and upgraded as part of the project.
Sh. Vij added that this project will prove to be a major relief for the residents of Ambala Cantonment. With the implementation of this system, people will get rid of the persistent waterlogging problem during the rainy season and will benefit from a cleaner and safer environment. He reiterated that the State Government is committed to working in the public interest, and this initiative is a significant step in that direction.
