Ropar Wildlife Division celebrates Wondrous Wetland of Punjab with a 3-day program

Rupnagar: 15 June 2021: On the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav, Ropar Wildlife Division, Department of Forests and Wildlife Preservation, Punjab organized a virtual seminar on the theme of ‘Wondrous Wetlands- Punjab da Amrit’ on 15th June 2021
Day 1 of this 3-day celebrations was an insightful and educational with webinar where renowned personalities participated as speakers to share their experiences and knowledge about wetlands of Punjab.
More than 150 participants attended the webinar which included school students, nature lovers, teachers and individuals. Mr Gnana Prakash, Conservator of Forests, Shivalik Circle of Punjab also attended the seminar.
First speaker, Dr Neelima Jerath, who spoke about the journey of Ramsar Sites of Punjab is the Director General of Pushpa Gujral Science City, Advisor Env to Department of Water Supply Sanitation,GoP for World Bank Projects,Member Expert of Comm. National Biodiversity Authority per NGT order for PBR EvaluationFormer, Executive Director at Punjab State Council For Science And Technology, FounderMember Secretary of Punjab Biodiversity Board,Punjab State Innovation Council as well as Former Chairperson of State Expert Appraisal Committee.
Another speaker who shared her knowledge was Ms Geetanjali Kanwar. She is the Specialist in Aquatic Biodiversity, Wetlands and Rivers with WWF India. She shared important aspects related to health of wetlands.
Dr Monika Yadav, IFS, DFO Ropar conducted the webinar says that she feels blessed to hear from such eminent people who have really made the positive change for the environment.
Day 2 of this celebrations be again be a seminar followed by Day 3 where Bats Trek will be organized by the department.

Along with the virtual seminar, the department has also invited the school students to participate in the competition of story-telling (till class 6), model making (class 7-9) and presentation/ write up (class 10-12) on the topic ‘Your Action Plan for Natural Resources’. Students can send in their entries on dfowildliferopar@gmail.com or dfowildliferupnagar@gmail.com by 11 AM of 17 June 21. As per the department, all the participants will be given certificates.
