SAYS PUNJAB GOVERNMENT WILL STAND BY FARMERS TO SAFEGUARD THEIR INTERESTS

VILLAGE & DISTRICT LEVEL PROTESTS TO BE LODGED ON MONDAY ACROSS PUNJAB

HOSHIARPUR, SEPTEMBER 18: Asserting that Punjab Government will stand by the farmers, the Industries and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora on Friday accused the Shiromani Akali Dal for blatantly ignoring the interests of state’s peasantry besides terming the resignation of Harsimrat Kaur Badal from Union Cabinet as a ‘political stunt’.

Reiterating Punjab Government’s resolve to safeguard the interests of farmers at all costs, Sunder Sham Arora said that village and district level protests against the farm-ordinances would be staged across the state on Monday.

While interacting with the journalists after the Virtual Kisan Mela presided over by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the Minister said that Akali Dal, which always pretended itself as ‘saviour of farmers & farming’, was a party of opportunists. He said that the resignation of Harsimrat Kaur Badal was just a political gimmick as the real face of Akali leadership had been exposed with their continuous betrayal with the farmers of the state.

Answering a query, Sunder Sham Arora said that now the Punjab farmers had become wise enough and Shiromani Akali Dal could not mislead them anymore. The SAD leadership has become habitual of backstabbing the farmers of State as earlier they are claiming that the farm ordinances will not harm the interests of farming fraternity but now they are trying to achieve political goals by pulling its Minister from Union Cabinet.

Referring to belated opposition of farm ordinance by the SAD leadership, Sunder Sham Arora asked the SAD leaders why they didn’t resist ordinance when these were discussed earlier several times with Cabinet ministers. He said that such acts of the leaders of SAD apparently reflected their dubious face.

Assuring the farmers that Punjab Government will work shoulder-to-shoulder with state farmers against said ordinances, said Arora adding that the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had saved the waters of Punjab earlier and now the State would stand by the farmers in view of current farm crisis.

Replying a query regarding virtual Kisan Mela, the Minister said that it was the pro-farmer initiative, where the experts from PAU would throw ample light on the advancements in farming sector amid COVID crisis, which would be immensely beneficial for the farmers.
