Seminar on Punjabi Diaspora: Creative and Critical Response

  An one day Seminar-cum-book release on the title ‘Punjabi Diaspora: Creative and Critical Response’ was organized by Shabad Vichar Manch-A Forum for Talk Show and Discussion,  of Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University Chandigarh.

In his welcome address, Prof. Gurpal Singh, Academic Incharge of the department said that Punjabi diaspora is flourishing across the globe. Migratory experiences manifest in literature like novels, poems, stories etc. Literature preserves the cultural and social heritage in the other land and spread throughout the world through literature.

The program was started with the book release of “Kavya Pravachan” by Dr. Mahinder Gill.      In his Inaugural address, Dr. Jagbir Singh, Chancellor Central University of Punjab, Bathinda said that the Punjabi diaspora is spread over more than 150 countries. The Punjabi diaspora is very rich in its cultural and social heritage. He urged that diaspora must preserve its cultural and social heritage for long and never forget its ancient Indian knowledge tradition.

In his research paper, Dr. Ravinder Singh said that the poet put his whole life and migratory experience in this poetic composition. He said that Britain is the best place to flourish the literary works because Punjabi diaspora and Punjabi literary works have flourished very well on the British land.

In the other research paper, Dr. Parmjit Singh said that the present poetic work is a masterpiece. Poet has put all his insights into the words. He said that sometimes a poem becomes more than the poet and becomes eternal.

Poet Dr. Mahinder Gill expressed his views and life experience and also shared his some pickups from the collection.  In his presidential address, Dr. Sarabjit Singh of University Dept of Punjabi Studies PU, said that Literature is the best mode of understanding of any society. Societal norms and behavior manifest in the literature. Poetics, Novels, Plays and Dramas are the main forms of literary frameworks. He said that formulation and framework are also important components of creative literature.

Dr. Deepak Manmohan, Dr. Uma Sethi, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Dr. Asha Maudgil, Dr. Shinder Pal, Dr. Neeraj Jain, Dr. Balwinder Singh, Dr. Amardeep Kaur, Dr. Harmail Singh and many others also shared his views. Many scholars, guests and students participated in the discussion.
