Department of Botany, GDC Kargil conducted an essay writing competition on Friday on the theme “Say No to corruption, Commit to the nation” as part of the Vigilance Awareness Week 2023.
The event was aimed at emphasising the significance of transparency and ethical conduct in combating corrupt practices in in government or private institutions.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from fifteen students who tried to highlight the menaces of corruption on various levels in society and suggested initiatives that can be taken up by each stakeholder in combating this malpractice.
The judging panel consisted of Senior Assistant Professor Razia Parveen and Assistant Professor Kunzang Dolma who assessed the essays based on the originality, innovative ideas and depth of understanding of the theme. The position holders were given e-certificates at the end of the program. The event concluded with closing remarks by Assistant Professor Rinchen Angmo.

The Department of English, GDC Kargil today conducted a ‘Sensitisation Programme’ on Vigilance Awareness Week.
The event was moderated by Praveen Fatima, Assistant Professor, Department of English.
A talk was delivered by Dr. Azra Khatoon, Assistant Professor, Department of English, on the imperative features of VAW. The discussion encompassed the malaises of corruption, that impair the political, social, economic and educational health of a community.
She highlighted the notion around the collective responsibility of the youth, stakeholders and members of civil society, to make the society corruption free.
The talk was followed by an interaction with the students. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, presented by Taira Bano, Assistant Professor, Department of English, GDC Kargil.

Kargil, April 04, 2023 :- Department of Botany, Govt. Degree College Kargil on Monday organized one day field trip at Faruna village for students of BSc 2nd Semester to describe soil profile, Plant Ecology along with their identification.
The study used Quasi Experimental methods involving only past test design (Quadrate Method) under the supervision of HoD Botany Assistant Professor, Ahsan Ali.
The faculty members namely Assistant Professor Rinchen Angmo,
Assistant Professor, Maqsood Ahmad and
Assistant Professor, Villayat Ali also assisted the students during the trip.
The field trips are vital as for as education is concerned. Such events add to the exposure and scientific temper among the students.
Notably,  the Faruna and its adjoining areas like Tambis, Trespone and Saliskote serve as habitat for flora and fauna diversity in the district.
During the trip, the students were also studied the soil profile at Khumbathang area.

UT Ladakh Padma Angmo today inspected various Anganwadi Centers of Sankoo and Taisuru. She also visited GDC Kargil Sankoo Campus where she took stock of developmental activities.
Joint Director Information and Project Officer ICDS Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho, Under Secretary Higher Education Rigzin Yangdol, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sankoo Mohd Hanif, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Sankoo Hadi Ali, CDPO Taisuru Syed Murtaza besides other concerned officers were present during the visit.
At GDC Kargil Sankoo Campus, the Commissioner/Secretary directed the incharge principal to start preparation for the implementation of New Education Policy (NEP).  She also directed to submit the revised DPR of the construction of the college building as soon as possible.
She also visited various Anganwadi centers of Sankoo and Taisuru. The Commissioner/Secretary instructed the concerned officers to timely update the Poshan tracker and also instructed to link the Aadhar card of the children.
She also instructed the Supervisors to keep constant supervision over the nutrients being provided to the children according to the guidelines issued by the Central Government.
The Commissioner/Secretary also instructed the CDPOs to shift the Anganwadi centers adjacent to schools if possible. She also directed for proper coordination with Sarpanchs and Panchs  of the village while suitable land should be identified for the construction of separate Anganwadi centers.
She also informed that the UT Administration will organize an exposure-cum-training program for Supervisors and Workers of Anganwadi centers soon adding that the transportation charges will be taken care of by the administration.
Padma Angmo also met a delegation of people at Sankoo and Taisuru and gave a patient hearing to all projected demands which mainly include upgradation of middle schools, creation of post for teachers in schools, creation of new Anganwadi centers, infrastructure development in schools and other related issues.
The Commissioner/Secretary assured the delegation that the issues will be taken up with higher authorities for early redressal.

Women Empowerment Cell, Govt. Degree College Drass, today organized a special program supported by the National Commission for Women and implemented by Tata Institute of Social Science with Police System. The program was held under the supervision of Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi.
The program was started by Wahida Rehman Mir, Assistant Professor Geology who gave a brief introduction about the program and welcomed the chief speaker Haseena Batool and Khadim Hussain with traditional khataks.
Speaking on the session the speakers discussed gender-based violence in both public and private life and also tried to empower women by their precious talk and discussion.
A number of questions were answered and discussed by the speakers regarding harassment and molestation in public places. The session ended with vote of thanks presented by Kaneez Fatima, librarian.

GDC Drass today organized a seminar on National Sports Day 2022 under the guidance of Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi under the banner of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
On the occasion, Mustafa Ali Director Physical Education GDC Drass highlighted the importance of sports and its value in the life of a student.
He apprised the students that participation in sports is useful for e physical health and mental development. He urged students to take part in different sports on regular basis.
Incharge Principal Prof. Mumtaz Ahmad encouraged students to participate and take advantage of various opportunities provided by the government in sports sector. He also thanked the college’s Director of Physical Education for organizing the event.
Irfan Ahmad Bhat, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, also briefed the students about importance of the sports day and highlighted role of Major Dhyan Chand in the field of sports.
Mujeeb President Students’ Council GDC Drass also spoke on the occasion and briefed students on how they can take sports as a career option.
The department of Physical Education organized different sports events such as table tennis for faculty, boys and girls and cricket (Tennis) for boys as part of the program. In the end, Mustafa Ali presented vote of thanks.

KARGIL, JULY 21, 2022: Department of Commerce, GDC Kargil, in collaboration with Controller General of Patents Designs & Trademarks, Govt. of India today organized a seminar on intellectual property rights (IPRs) as part of National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM) and 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The seminar was attended by faculties and students of different departments of the college. The experts for the said program were Vipin Kumar, Examiner of Patents and Design and Prashant Singh, Examiner of Patents and Design.
The experts enlightened the audience about intellectual property, its types and the benefits of registering ones creation/invention under intellectual property.
Both the speakers thoroughly explained the topic substantiated with examples and concluded their presentation with a quiz.
Officiating Principal GDC Kargil, Sr. Assistant Prof. Saleem Ahmad and Assistant Prof. Abazar, head of department commerce graced the program with their presence.

Career Counselling Cell, GDC Kargil in collaboration with the Department of Commerce today celebrated World Youth Skills Day with the theme transforming youth skills for the future.
The event was attended by officiating principal Salim Ahmad, faculty members of Department of Commerce, members of Career Counselling Cell, pass out and enrolled students of the college.
World Youth Skills Day is marked across the globe to raise social awareness of young people’s skills and aims to provide information on career opportunities and discuss how to prepare for a competitive job market.
At the outset, the attendees were briefed by Tsetan Dolkar, Assistant Professor Geography, member, Career Counselling Cell regarding the importance of the day in present context.
Officiating Principal, Salim Ahmad spoke about the need of skill acquisition in the present competitive scenario and increasing challenges of unemployment. The students were apprised about various skills that they could possibly look forward to acquire.
In the end, Stanzin Norphail, Assistant Professor, Commerce briefed about the successful conduct of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Youth Employment Programme (YEP) followed by distribution of certificates among 45 college pass-out candidates.
It was organized by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Mumbai in collaboration with Govt. Degree College Kargil under their CSR umbrella for building employability skills.
In total around 137 candidates registered and only 45 were declared successful. Some candidates also shared personal experiences and spoke about the course.
Lastly, the Career Counselling Cell and Department of Commerce on behalf of the college congratulated all the awardees and wished them good luck for their future.

Department of Physics GDC Kargil in colloborattion with KREDA today organized one-day educational-cum-exposure tour for the 3rd and 5th semester students to the KREDA Hydro Power Project Biaras, Drass and Water Uplift Project powered by renewable source of energy at Latoo area.
KREDA Project Director Kacho Ahmad Khan provided expert guidance to the students through the projects at both Biaras and Latoo.
Site Engineer Shujat Ali and operator Ramzan Ali introduced the students about the basics of power generation at the Biaras Power Project, which has two turbines each with power generation capacity of 750kW.
It was interesting to know that this is the only power project which run tirelessly throughout the year, even in -40oC since November 2017 and serving the people of Drass.
The enthusiastic students seeing upon the project were overwhelmed and asked various questions pertaining to the working about turbines and different machinery involved.
On way back to Kargil, students were taken to Latoo village to see the water uplifting project commissioned by KREDA.
Engineer Sajad Hussain, the expert at Latoo area guided the students in knowing the basics of water upliftment.
The importance of the project to village was also discussed in detail with experts and elders of the village. This project fulfills the water needs for irrigation and household purposes.
Assistant Professor Physics Dr Niyaz Ali and Rizwan Ali accompanied and guided the students to the two locations.
The department of Physics thanked Principal, Dr Amina Qari, Dr Javaid Iqbal HOD Zoology, Kacho Ahmad Khan, KREDA Project Director and Zakir Hussain, the bus driver of the tour.

KARGIL, JULY 09, 2022 :-  Department of Psychology GDC Kargil and the grievance and redressal committee organized a week-long workshop on mental health issues for female students on mental health issues like emotional and psychological problems.
A psychiatric nurse from District Hospital Kargil was specially invited for seven days to examine and collect the case history of those female students who were somehow experiencing any sort of mental health issue.
The workshop commenced on July 04, 2022, and concluded today (July 09). Scores of female students shared their issues and problems with the psychiatric expert and the resource person maintained ethics of assessment and kept the reports confidential.
By the end of the workshop, the resource person cited the signs of problematic situations related to mental health among adolescents at GDC Kargil.
In the week-long program, the students of psychology also took part in the workshop by mobilizing and motivating students to communicate with the resource person.
Talking about mental health as a stigma, the resource person also stated that such workshops must be organized quarterly in institutions to check the mental health status of students, especially female students.
Essentially, the workshop on mental health exclusively for females was conducted based on the pilot study conducted by the department of psychology where females were found to be involved in mental health issues.
HoD psychology department Dr Syed Ali Shah and Convenor College Grievance and Redressal Committee Mohd Javad jointly extended their sincere gratitude to CMO Kargil Dr Munawar wazir and BMO and Nodal officer mental health Dr Fatima Nissa for their support in making the workshop successful. The whole program was supervised by Dr Syed Ali Shah.
