says the tardy progress made by govt in tracing stolen ‘Swaroops’ worrisome
Aam Aadmi Party to stage ‘dharna’ at Amritsar over theft of 267 holy ‘Swaroops’
Chandigarh, August 11
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh on Tuesday slammed the Amarinder Singh Government and Sukhbir Singh Badal over the issue of the stolen ancient ‘Swaroops’ of Sri Granth Sahib from the Gurdwara Sahib at Kalyan village in the district.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, along with senior party leader and Kotkapura MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Harpal Singh Cheema said the Congress government’s mysterious sluggishness in tracing the stolen ‘Sawroops’ which went missing from the Kalyan village Gurudwara was worrisome, saying it was the redux of the theft of sacred ‘Swaroops’ of Guru Granth Sahib missing from the Burj Jawahar Singh in 2015, when the then Badal government had showed a little interest in tracing the ‘Swaroops’. He added that the alleged theft had led to the recurrence of incidents of desecration, one after the other, which was still continuing, he added.
Cornering Sukhbir Singh Badal and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Cheema where was Sukhbir Singh Badal, staging a sham ‘Dharna’ at Patiala along with his henchmen, when desecration of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari happened and firing incident at Behbal Kalan Kotkapura took place during the Badals’ regime? He questioned the SAD supremo indulging in political gimmickry as to how he would now face the ‘Sangat’ which had been crying hoarse to bring those behind these incidents to justice.
Harpal Singh Cheema and Kultar Singh Sandhwan has sought a clarification from Sukhbir Singh Badal and SGPC President Gobind Singh Longowal on the issue of 267 sacred ‘Swaroops’ of Guru Granth Sahib which had gone missing from the sanctum sanctorum in a mysterious way.
The LoP further said “Sukhbir Badal should stop misleading the people of Punjab and the ‘sangat’ from home and abroad with such a ‘pseudo’ love for the people and the Panth, alleging that the sacrilegious act had brought the SGPC to the dock with regard to the theft of 267 ‘Swaroops’ of the Granth Sahib”
The AAP leaders demanded that the case of 267 stolen ‘Saroops’, including those stolen from the Kalyan village Gurudwara Sahib, be handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh under the supervision of the High Court.
Cheema announced that the Aam Aadmi Party, along with the ‘Sangat’ would stage ‘dharna’ at Amritsar surrounding the theft of 267 ‘swaroops’, as also to spread a message among the people how the Amarinder Singh government was protecting the Badals from serious acts of desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib and the role of the dubious role of the SGPC under the guidance of the Badals keeping a watchful eye on the ‘Golaks’ (donation boxes).
