Tips to protect your children from catching Covid-19 infection

CHANDIGARH

Most of the medical experts believe that the third wave of Covid-19 will infect more children, as compared to the first and second wave of the pandemic. This is because the population below the age of 18 is yet to get anti-covid vaccine, making them more prone to catching virus infection.

Even though government and private hospitals are ramping up medical facilities and infrastructure there in paediatric wards, you can protect your children from getting severe Covid infection.

Here are some tips which can protect the children from getting Covid-19 infection:

  • First, educate your children about the importance of using hand sanitizer and wearing masks.
  • While washing hands, teach them the guidelines given by the WHO of using soap and water for at least 20 seconds or frequently use alcohol-based sanitizer.
  •  Straight after coughing, sneezing or touching objects like door handles wash your hands because the same objects are likely to be touched by others as well.
  • Once a day, try to wash the children’s toys as they play with them throughout the day.
  • Wash and clean the floor and most touched objects at least once a day at home.
  • If your child is weak and catches the infection quickly, do not let your child come in contact with anyone who has a cold, fever or Covid-19 symptoms.
  • To avoid outdoor activities, try to engage your child in interesting indoor activities.
  • Toddlers often touch objects when they go out so don’t take children to attend any kind of social gathering.
  • Give a nutritious diet to children with plenty of water. Give citrus fruits to children such as, orange, lemon and cook vegetables which are rich in vitamin C, vitamin D containing foods such as cheese, egg yolks etc.
  • To prevent the infection coming into homes, all the eligible house members should get their both doses of anti-covid vaccine.
  • Any pending non-covid vaccination of children should be done on time.
  • In case, any member from your house gets infected with Covid-19, then maintain a distance. Don’t allow children to roam around their place. Even be careful that toddlers don’t touch anything that can catch viruses.
  • Try to use a separate bathroom for children from other people in the home.
  • It’s for you and your family safety if you use separate eating utensils for children and not share these with other members. After use, wash with very hot soapy water.
  • Make use of separate bedding and towels for tiny tots.
