Punjab Government to introduce new technology to make fisheries more profitable: Tript Bajwa

Chandigarh, July 9: The Minister for Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa has congratulated the fish farmers on the occasion of National Fish Farmers Day. In his message to the farmers Mr. Bajwa said that by adopting fish farming as an ancillary business, the farmers of the state would further increase their income by adopting the latest scientific techniques in this field and contribute to the economic prosperity of the state.

National Fish Farmers Day is celebrated on 10th July every year to commemorate the epoch-making innovation in the field of induced breeding of Indian major carps by the renowned scientists Dr.K.H.Alikunhi and Dr.H.L Chaudhury on this day in 1957. The purpose of celebrating this day is to motivate the farmers to adopt fish farming as an ancillary or main occupation.

Mr. Tripat Bajwa while congratulating the fish farmers on the occasion said that under the dynamic leadership of the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh the state was making great strides in the field of fisheries. He said that at present 1, 51,706 tonnes of fish was being produced annually in the state out of 16,890 hectares area. At the same time with the introduction of prawn (Jhingan Fish) farming in the saline water area of Punjab, 750 tonnes of Jhingan fish was produced in the area of 410 acres during the year 2019-20.

The Minister said further said that due to the huge demand for Jhingan fish abroad, the farmers could easily increase their income by adopting Jhingan fish farming. He said that this year the government was planning to expand the new technology in the field of fisheries. Under which RAS system and Bio-flock technology for fish farming would be promoted in the state which would make fish farming more easy and profitable.
