Vegetables are a good source of every type of nutrition from minerals to vitamins and should be consumed on a daily basis. The nutritional value of vegetables has forced us to include them in our everyday diet. When peeling a vegetable we tend to throw away the peels because we think they are useless. However, you would be surprised to know that there are certain fruits and vegetables whose peels are considered to have great nutritional value. As the vegetable peels can be full of pesticides it is essential to wash them properly before consuming them. They should be dipped in baking soda for 15 minutes and then rinsed with water which makes them fit for consumption. Here are some peels you can consume:


1. Cucumber Peels: are found to be rich in minerals and vitamins and the cucumber can be consumed with the peels itself. It improves our metabolism as well as digestive system because it is rich in fibre.
2. Orange Peels: are found to have more Vitamin C than the orange itself. It needs to be washed properly and then dried in the sun. The powder of thepeels can then be used in face masks and several food items.
3. Lemon Peels: are rich in vitamins and minerals like calcium and Vitamin C. They are believed to have medicinal properties due to which they are a part of several ayurvedic medicines too. It controls the cholesterol levels in the body and also improves the digestive system.
4. Mango Peels: are full of vitamins and minerals which can prevent the risk of cancer. They can be consumed by turning them into a chutney. Only the clean and thick peels should be used for the purpose.
