As per the media bulletin released by the Directorate of Health Services UT Ladakh, 1 new positive sample report of Covid-19 was received by CMO Leh. No deaths were reported in UT Ladakh yesterday.

While a total of 129 sample reports were tested in UT Ladakh. 121 sample reports in Leh and 07 sample reports in Kargil were found to be negative.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 active cases in UT Ladakh is 05; all active cases are in Leh district

The bulletin further informs that 1679 passengers were screened at the KBR, Leh airport while 1350 passengers including the drivers and helpers of trucks, and light motor vehicles were screened at Khaltsi check post and 65 passengers were screened at Khangral check post.

Commissioner/ Secretary, Public Health Engineering Department, Ajeet Kumar Sahu chaired a meeting to discuss the Groundwater Resource Estimation (GWRE) in UT Ladakh with the officials of Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), Jammu.

During the meeting, the Commissioner/Secretary emphasised the need for conducting a Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping of all the bore wells in Ladakh. He directed the Executive Engineer, PHE/I&FC to do a GIS mapping of all bore wells, whether functional or non-functional, domestic, industrial, or departmental. Prior permission has to be taken for any drilling activity from the Superintending Engineer, he added.

Further, the Commissioner/ Secretary asked the Executive Engineer, PHE/I&FC to launch a portal for the online application and registration for drilling bore wells. He exhorted that without prior permission no drilling activity will be allowed to take place, all the drilling agencies should be registered and drilling equipment should have Global Positioning System (GPS) tagging.

Commissioner/ Secretary asked concerned officials to make the installation of meters mandatory on all the bore wells whether private or government.

Earlier, Scientist ‘D’, CGWB, NWHR, Jammu, M.L.Angurala gave the Commissioner/ Secretary a detailed presentation on the Groundwater Resource Estimation in the Union Territory of Ladakh. He briefed the Commissioner/ Secretary about the assessment zones for GWRE in both Leh and Kargil districts.

Groundwater is a vital source to meet the water requirements of several sectors such as agriculture, domestic, and industrial. If its usage is unchecked it can lead to inter-sectoral conflicts.

Secretary Power and New & Renewable Energy Department, UT Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar visited the site of 50 MW Solar Power Project at Taru, Leh to review the progress of the work.

During his visit, the Secretary interacted with the officials of SECI (Solar Energy Corporation of India) & TATA Power. He directed the officials to complete the project within the stipulated time.
Project Manager, SECI, Debajyoti apprised the Secretary about the timeline of the project and informed that SECI has already deputed their team permanently in Leh for the timely completion of the project.

The officials from the TATA Power also informed that the project is expected to be completed as per the timeline and work has already started on the site with more resources, manpower & machinery on the site in the next few weeks.

CEC Gyalson expressed his concern over local students migrating to different cities outside Ladakh and studying in premiere professional institutes amid various challenges.

He stated that having such institutes in Ladakh would overcome such challenges and help youth to enhance professional and develop entrepreneurship skills. He also stated that having professional skill training institutes like IIM with programmes suitable to the local environment and economic activities would gradually help in building more opportunities for the youth.

Advisor to Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Umang Narula convened a meeting to review the status of various infrastructure issues being faced by residents of urban areas in Leh and Kargil towns. The meeting was initiated after a delegation of the Ex-Servicemen Welfare Society met the Advisor and submitted a memorandum highlighting the issues concerning road conditions, street lights, ATM machines and children’s parks, etc.

Commissioner/Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Ajeet Kumar Sahu apprised the Advisor that the Department has already allotted the work of upgrading and improving the condition of roads, lanes, and footpaths to NHIDCL. He stated that more than 180 km of roads are being targeted for improvement in both the towns during the current financial year. He further informed that both the towns have been covered with street lights last year.

However, there are a few dark spots that are being identified with the help of local Councilors and ward members and these are being covered during the current financial year. With regard to issues of the street lights of Ibex Colony, Secretary, Power Development Department, Ravindar Kumar informed that the work on shifting of electric poles would be completed within a week and all the street lights would be provided electricity connection thereafter. Director, Urban Local Bodies further informed that the Department has already invited tenders for installing a Centralized Control Monitoring System (CCMS) of all the street lights as part of the smart cities mission.

The Advisor asked the Director, Urban Local Bodies to obtain a suitable proposal from both the Municipal Committees for numbering of the lanes, sectors, and zones for easy identification of houses and buildings. He also directed the Additional Secretary, Finance to speak to the various Banks and ask them to install ATMs in uncovered areas for providing easy banking facilities to the residents

Besides, the issue of identifying vacant land for the development of children’s parks and other green areas through the LAHDCs also came up for discussion.

The meeting was attended by Comm/Secy, Public Works Department; Secretary, Power Department Development; Additional Secretary, Finance; Director, ULB and OSD to Hon’ble LG.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Leh in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, Leh organised a Kisan Mela under the Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari Campaign, being held at KVKs across the country under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, at KVK, Stakna, Leh today.

Executive Councillor for Agriculture, Stanzin Chosphel was the chief guest of the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, EC Stanzin Chosphel lauded the efforts of both the KVK Leh and Agriculture Department, Leh for organising the event. He advised the farmers/ participants to take maximum benefit from such Kisan Melas and urged them to learn a practice/trade from the melas and to surely implement them.

Highlighting the initiatives of making Ladakh an organic state, EC Chosphel added that vermicompost and compost have huge business potential in this regard. He appealed the youths to participate in agriculture and allied sectors as its entrepreneurial opportunities are immense. He added that the concept of integrated farming and the scope of floriculture should be revived and explored.

Senior Scientist/Head, KVK Leh, Dr Feroz-Din-Shiekh shared that the Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari campaign stresses on prioritising the role and participation of the farmers and collaboratively resolving their issues by all the line departments. He also highlighted the various schemes, training and programmes undertaken by the KVK Leh for farmers welfare and benefit.
Similarly, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Leh and District Agriculture Officer, Leh gave detailed insights about the different initiatives, schemes, and subsidized loans provided by their departments which could be availed of by the farmers.

The day-long event also had various exhibition stalls displaying products, by-products and services from agriculture and its allied sectors.

Progressive farmers from different blocks were felicitated by the Agriculture Department, Leh, under the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme, for their commendable work in Ladakh Greenhouse and Vermicompost. Likewise, various farmers from different villages who particpated in skill development training at KVK, Leh were also felicitated on the occasion.

Senior Scientists, officers and representatives from the Defence Institute of High-Altitude Research (DIHAR), High Mountain Arid Agriculture Research Institute (HMAARI), Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI) and GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, besides other officers of concerned departments and progressive farmers from different blocks of the districts participated in the event.
