We are aware of fever, dry cough, sore throat as symptoms of corona virus. But is nausea also one of them?

Even after so many months into this pandemic, people are still confused about the symptoms of corona virus. People are fearful of catching any such symptom that can declare them corona positive. One such symptom that is getting people scared is nausea. So is the fear right?

According to a report of the WHO-China Joint Mission on Corona virus Disease 2019, novel corona virus symptoms are “non-specific” and can range from absolutely no signs to severe pneumonia and death. Apart from the most common symptoms, the report does include nausea or vomiting in its list. Hence, nausea could be a symptom of novel corona virus but as per the percentage mentioned in the report, it is less common.

“As of February 20, 2020 and based on 55,924 laboratory confirmed cases, typical signs and symptoms include: fever (87.9%), dry cough (67.7%), fatigue (38.1%), sputum production (33.4%), shortness of breath (18.6%), sore throat (13.9%), headache (13.6%), myalgia or arthralgia (14.8%), chills (11.4%), nausea or vomiting (5.0%), nasal congestion (4.8%), diarrhoea (3.7%), and hemoptysis (0.9%), and conjunctival congestion (0.8%),” the report said.

The report also mentioned people over the age of 60 and those who suffer from hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease and cancer, are at higher risk of getting infected with corona virus.

Amid the novel corona virus scare though, it is imperative that you do not panic. Nausea is one of the symptom of corona virus but it is not only the symptom of corona virus. Sometimes lack of proper rest and diet can lead to it. Also most people infected with COVID-19 do get better with enough rest, consumption of fluids and medication. It should be noted that not every symptom should be taken as a panicking situation. A doctor can be consulted if the problem persists. Keeping in view the recovery rate of corona virus, there is not a lot to worry about. Just observe basic precautions such as washing hands with soap frequently, keeping your surroundings clean, covering your mouth while sneezing/coughing and wearing a mask.
