Have you ever wondered how exactly is our brain able to read and write? It was unclear during the beginning of the civilisation but with time scientists were able to discover the science behind it. Read below to understand how it happens.

Reading and writing has played a major role in human lives as it is the best way we can communicate our feelings and thoughts. A study was conducted by researchers in Ohia State University in US. The scientists discovered that the brain is wired in a manner already that it can understand words. The Visual Word Form Area (VWFA) is a part of the brain that enables our ability to read even before we are born. Though these areas enable us to read and write, we need at least some sort of training which we get when we start going to school. Without former training, these areas cannot help us read and write alone.

The brain of a new born was studied during the research which showed that the brain can develop sensitivity to visual words even before any sort of training.

The Visual Form Word Area or VFWA, which enables us to read, was only found to be developed in brains of people who were literate. Illiterate people lacked the development of the area in the brain.

This explains why we are able to read and write. The researchers have strongly advised that training is essential and without it the brain’s ability to read and write might not develop. The scientists have conducted vast studies on Visual Form Word Area and concluded how we go on from learning visual perceptions of faces to visual perceptions of words. That happens with time as this area develops.
