COVID Appropriate Behaviour’ campaign to spread awareness among masses for the containment of COVID-19 infection

Chandigarh, October  5 – In view of the upcoming festive season, Haryana Chief Secretary, Mr. Vijai Vardhan today directed the officers concerned to work amicably so as to ensure successful implementation of the ‘COVID Appropriate Behaviour’ campaign to spread awareness among masses for the containment of COVID-19 infection. Besides this, Deputy Commissioners were also directed   to prepare district-level action plans within a period of five days.

The Chief Secretary gave these directions while presiding over the meeting regarding awareness activities to be carried out under ‘COVID Appropriate Behaviour’ campaign held here today.  In the meeting a comprehensive action plan of Information Education Communication (IEC) and Behaviour change communication (BCC) activities on a total of 15 ‘COVID Appropriate Behaviour’ points including wearing masks, maintaining social distancing and hand hygiene to protect against COVID-19 was discussed in detail.

          The Chief Secretary said that Sarpanch, Panch, Village Secretary, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi workers can play an important role in spreading awareness among the rural area people, therefore active participation of all of them should be ensured. Besides this, wall paintings, hoardings, banners, and posters should be displayed at Panchayat houses, health centres and other public, places directed Mr. Vijai Vardhan.

          He said that awareness activities should be prepared as per the behaviour of the people.  Participation of religious leaders, renowned sportspersons and non-governmental organizations should also be ensured for successful implementation of the campaign.

          Apart from this, directions were also given that the Additional Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary of the respective departments should hold a weekly review meeting of the departments and submit their report to the Chief Secretary’s office directed the Chief Secretary. He also said that all departments should appoint Nodal Officer for this task so that this campaign can be successfully executed.

          He said that the departments should send awareness messages related to COVID-19 to the already functional WhatsApp group created by their departments for sharing the information of various schemes with the beneficiaries so as to ensure that COVID awareness messages too are circulated to the grassroot levels.

          In the meeting, Chief Executive Officer, Ayushman Bharat Haryana Health Protection Authority, Mr. Ashok Meena, while giving a presentation on the preparedness of COVID-19 said that awareness messages will be given to the people through print media, electronic media, radio, mobile, SMS, and public transport.

          Apart from this, LED screens will be installed at bus stands, hoardings, banners, posters carrying COVID-19 guidelines and precautions will be displayed at public places and pamphlets will also be distributed so as to ensure maximum publicity of  ‘COVID Appropriate Behaviour’ among the masses. He informed that a detailed action plan about IEC activities has been prepared and sent to the centre.

          It was informed in the meeting that 6197 Gram Panchayats across the State now has their own websites which are linked with the ‘Gram Darshan’ portal, which was launched recently by Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Lal. Messages related to COVID-19 guidelines including wearing masks, following social distancing norms, maintaining hygiene are already been displayed on these websites.

          Additional Chief Secretary, Medical Education and Research Department Mr. Alok Nigam, Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Health and Family Welfare Department, Mr. Rajeev Arora, Principal Secretary, Development and Panchayat Department, Mr. Sudhir Rajpal, Divisional Commissioner, Karnal Mr. Vineet Garg, Secretary, Personnel and Training Department, Mr. Nitin Yadav,  and other senior officials were present.
