Chandigarh, August 21 – While taking immediate cognizance of a fraud case, Haryana Transport Minister, Mr. Mool Chand Sharma directed the officers concerned to take strict action against the person who had allegedly committed fraud in the name of depositing Motor Vehicle Tax (Road Tax) online. A case regarding this was also registered against the accused in Bawal Police Station. He has also asked the officers of Regional Transport Authority (RTA) of the respective districts to keep a constant watch on people committing such frauds.
The Transport Minister said that some people have opened private shops (kiosks) in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, mainly states sharing border with Haryana for submitting motor vehicle tax online. They take money from the vehicle owners and make a false receipt and do not deposit money in the treasury of the State Government. He further added that such vehicle drivers are caught only during checkings on way otherwise such irregularities are difficult to catch. Due to this, the government faces losses and the vehicle owners too are cheated.
Elaborating on it further, Mr. Mool Chand Sharma said that a similar case has come to light in Bawal of Rewari district. A person has complained of such a fraud wherein he has stated that on August 18, he had got a tax of Rs 8,500 deducted for Rajasthan at a shop. The alleged accused gave him a receipt after taking money. However, when the bus reached Jaipur, during the checking, no record of the said receipt was found and the receipt turned out to be false.
The Transport Minister said that an investigation will be conducted on such private shops at places where they are functioning and strict action will be taken against them whenever cases of tax evasion or fraud with vehicle owners comes to light.
