For the first time in state level competitions Rs 2 lakh each to be given as prize money to winning teams – Sandeep Singh

Chandigarh, August 29 – Haryana Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sh. Sandeep Singh said that for the first time in state level competitions Rs 2 lakh will be given as prize money to teams winning first place and Rs. 1.5 lakh and Rs. 1 lakh to teams bagging second and third place respectively. This amount will be deposited directly in the bank accounts of the sportspersons.

Sh. Sandeep Singh was speaking at the concluding ceremony of the state-level hockey competition at the Khelo Haryana competition in Shahbad Markanda, Kurukshetra district. Earlier, Sh. Sandeep Singh watched the hockey matches and encouraged the players. Sh. Sandeep Singh honoured the winning women and male teams.

During this competition in the women’s category, Kurukshetra stood first while Hisar and Sonipat bagged second and third place respectively. In the men’s category, Jind bagged first place while Kurukshetra and Kaithal bagged second and third place respectively.

During the event, the Sports Minister paid floral tributes to Major Dhyanchand on National Sports Day. He said Haryana’s first big game competition has been organised after COVID. He said that is the foresight of Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal that the youth of Haryana have got the platform of Khelo India. These competitions will prepare the youth of Haryana for bright future and they will definitely win medals for the country.

He said that the state government increased the amount for diet to Rs. 400 and worked to provide basic amenities. Not only this, hockey astroturf is being provided in 13 districts to promote sports. He said that the gold medalists in the Olympic Games are given Rs. 2.50 crores on behalf of the state government while Rs. 6 crore, 4 crore are given for silver medal and bronze medal respectively. A provision has also been made to give advance amount of Rs. 5 lakh for the players selected for Olympic Games. Haryana is the first state of the country where the highest cash amount is given as a reward for medal winning players. Along with this, the winners of various national and international competitions are provided government jobs of Group B and C category.
