Chandigarh, August 28- Haryana Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Dushyant Chautala requested the GST Council to pay the state’s compensation of Rs. 5840 crore at the earliest which has been pending for the last four months.
While participating in the 41st GST Council from Chandigarh through video conferencing, Deputy Chief Minister requested the Central Government to provide maximum financial support to Haryana, as COVID-19 has adversely affected the economy of the State. He demanded that the loss of revenue should be compensated to the States even after the period of 5-years of GST which culminates in 2022. Union Finance Minister, Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State for Finance, Mr Anurag Thakur, besides other senior officials were also present during the video conferencing.
Mr. Dushyant Chautala said that Haryana is a leading state in terms of manufacturing and export. Before the GST system, the state used to get maximum revenue in the form of tax on products. The revenue collection across the state has been adversely affected after the implementation of GST system. The states where products are being sold are getting more benefits of GST. The revenue of the state has also been affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Deputy Chief Minister drew the attention of the GST Council towards the provisions of the Constitutional amendments wherein Parliament is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the payment of compensation to the states. He said that Parliament should come forward regarding this matter. He also underlined that the Council must focus on raising the revenues as a long-term solution to the problem of revenues deficit.
Mr. Dushyant Chautala also requested the GST Council to physically hold the next meeting of the Council while following the norms of social distancing like Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha so that the representatives of all the states can present their views in a better and effective manner.
Principal Secretary, Excise and Taxation Department, Mr. Anurag Rastogi, Excise and Taxation Commissioner Mr. Shekhar Vidyarthi, Joint Commissioner, Excise and Taxation, Mr. Rajiv Chaudhary were also present on the occasion.
