Chandigarh, June 14: Haryana Home and Health Minister, Sh. Anil Vij said that the Martyrdom Memorial being built in Ambala Cantonment will serve as a memory of the bravehearts in the past and this memorial will become an attractive tourist spot in the coming days. Efforts will be made to get this Martyr Memorial inaugurated by Prime, Sh. Narendra Modi.
Sh. Vij appealed to the people of the state that if any person has any item related to the revolution of 1857 such as rifle, gun, pistol, musket cartridge, uniform, sword, in the form of heritage of their ancestors, knives, badges, medals, documents, postal stamps issued on the Revolution of 1857, letters or correspondence, newspapers in original, paintings of that period, any maps or any other object which has been associated with the Revolution of 1857can be given to the Haryana Government to be preserved as heritage. He said that if the item, document or other things are found to be authentic, it will be displayed in the gallery along with the name and address of the person who has given it. He said that any person from the state or country and abroad can make contributions related to this subject.
The Home Minister said that the government would be grateful for this cooperation given by the general public and these contributions will be displayed respectfully in the Martyr Memorial being built in Ambala. This Martyrs Memorial, while on one hand will remind us of the sacrifices made by the revolutionaries for the country, on the other hand it will also emerge as a great tourist destination. People visiting here, especially the future leaders of the country will be able to learn new lessons of patriotism from the memories of the past. In the times to come, this Martyr Memorial will open new chapters at the national and international level in the field of exemplary identity and inspiration.
It is noteworthy that a grand and huge monument has been built on 22 acres of land in Ambala Cantonment on the Ambala-Delhi National Highway at a cost of about Rs.300 crore in the Ambala Cantonment area, to pay tribute to the bravery and martyrdom of the brave soldiers in memory of the 1857 revolution. The construction work, which is in progress, is in the final stage.
