Chandigarh, September 19 – Haryana Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister, Mr. Ranjit Singh said that several schemes are being run by the government to promote solar energy in the state. He said that as subsidy is being given on solar energy equipment, therefore people are now shifting towards buying these equipments.

In a statement issued here today, Mr. Ranjit Singh said that under the ‘Manohar Jyoti Yojana’, every family is provided with a 150 Watt solar system, along with a lithium battery. This solar system can run a fan and three LED lights. The system also has a mobile charging port.

Under the scheme, the cost of all the goods including 150 watt solar panel comes only to Rs. 22,500 and on this, a subsidy of Rs 15,000 is being given by the State Government. Beneficiaries can avail this scheme by depositing an amount of Rs. 7500.

The Minister said that irrigation through solar pumps in the fields is also proving to be very successful and beneficial. The cgovernment is also giving considerable subsidy to the farmers on solar pumps. By using these pumps, farmers can avoid huge expenditure being spent on diesel.

He said that solar pumps up to 3 HP, 5 HP, 7.5 HP and 10 HP are available under this scheme. Farmers will have to pay only 25 percent of the amount for buying these pumps, while the remaining 75 percent will be given as a subsidy by the government.

Under this scheme, the subsidy benefit will be available only to those farmers who use sprinkler sets (fountain systems), drip irrigation or underground pipeline in their fields.

Mr. Ranjit Singh informed that the government has also decided to give a grant to those installing grid-based roof top power plants to reduce electricity bills of domestic, institutional and commercial buildings. Under this scheme, 40 percent subsidy will be given on installing one to 10 kW domestic power plants.

The Minister said that maximum solar power plants in the state have been set up in Sirsa district. Such plants have been installed in 93 gaushalas of the district with a total capacity of more than 300 kW. These include 28 with batteries and 65 without batteries and all systems are connected to the grid.

In addition, 5 KW and 10 KW power plants have been installed in 10 PHCs and CHCs in the district with battery banks to ensure uninterrupted power supply. Connected power plants have also been set up in all the six Aarohi Model Schools and six Kasturba Gandhi schools in the district with a total capacity of 150 KW. Plants ranging from 10 MW to 150 MW are being set up in different villages of the district by different companies, informed the Minister.

Mr. Ranjit Singh said that saving electricity is more important than generating electricity. Therefore, people are motivated to save electricity by various means. Last year, energy efficient appliances like LED bulbs, five star ceiling fans etc. were provided in 15 schools so as to make school children understand the importance of energy efficiency and its conservation.
