Haryana Vidhan Sabha will commence on August 26, 2020 at 2:00 pm

Chandigarh, August 25- The monsoon session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha will commence on August 26, 2020 at 2:00 pm in accordance with the predetermined schedule and amid COVID-19 Pandemic, the proceedings of Vidhan Sabha will be held while adhering to the social distancing and other norms being issued by Union Home Ministry.

Executive Chairman, Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Mr. Ranbir Singh Gangwa shared this while addressing a press conference here today.

He informed that COVID-19 test reports of all the MLAs who will be attending the session have been received. COVID-19 report of six MLAs including Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal, who is also the Leader of the House and Speaker Vidhan Sabha, Mr. Gian Chand Gupta, Transport Minister, Mr.  Mool Chand Sharma, MLAs Mr. Ram Kumar Kashyap, Mr. Aseem Goyal and Mr. Lakshman Napa has come positive, he shared.

Mr. Gangwa informed that the house has been sanitized twice. This time, the audience will not be allowed to watch the proceedings of the House, because this time the MLAs will also be seated in the audience gallery and the Speaker’s Gallery, maintaining social distancing.

In response to a question regarding duration of the Assembly duration, Mr. Gangwa said that it will be decided tomorrow at 11 am in the meeting of the Legislative Assembly Proceedings Committee.

He said that the COVID-19 test of 365 employees and officers of the Vidhan Sabha has been conducted and six employees have tested positive. The seats of these employees have also been sanitized. Every employee and officer coming to the Vidhan Sabha must bring their COVID-19 report citing it is negative. Due to the Pandemic, some MLAs have also suggested to limit the House proceedings to one day.

In response to another question, Mr. Gangwa said that for the Vidhan Sabha session, 187 questions were received 15 days ago by the MLAs, which the government has to answer in the House. Through the Draw of Lots, 40 starred questions have been taken up for question hour for scheduled session duration of two days. Apart from this, 30 Calling Attention Motions have also been received, out of which two proposals are on the issue of registries raised by MLA Mr. Abhay Singh Chautala and infant mortality rate have been accepted and others are under consideration. Similarly, proposals for one private bill and four adjournment motions have also been received.

Mr. Gangwa informed that 10 bills will be passed along with necessary legislative functions. A bill to reserve 50 percent seats for women in Panchayati Raj Institutions and eight percent seats for backward class ‘A’ is also to be passed in the house.
