1000 lives will be saved every year if people on the road use seat belts and helmets- Shatrujit Kapoor

Chandigarh, July 12: On the initiative of the Haryana Transport Department, the campaign ‘Aao Bane Road Safety Sarathi’ was started through the Higher Education Department. Inaugurating the campaign online Haryana Principal Secretary, Transport, Sh. Shatrujit Kapoor said that the state of Haryana under the leadership of the Government of India has also set a target of reducing accidents by more than half by the year 2030. Giving the example of the state of Tamil Nadu, he said that this goal is possible with the joint participation of all the institutions/departments related to road safety.

He said that the Haryana Government has accepted the Four-E formula. First is e-education, second is enforcement, third is engineering and fourth is emergency care. He said that on National Highways 32 per cent and on State Highways 21 per cent accidents happen due to negligence.

Appreciating the efforts of Haryana Transport and Police Department, he said that we need to strive to reduce accidents further. Addressing the youth, he said that 20 percent of the deaths are due to not wearing helmets and seatbelts only. If every road user starts using seat belts and helmets, thousands of lives will be saved every year. The most unfortunate is the death due to accident in the age group of 18 to 55 years which is about 85 per cent.

He said that the time has come to find the right of way, to understand lane driving. Road safety knowledge has to be imbibed right from the start. Addressing the District Transport Officers and all the Principals of colleges of Haryana in the online webinar, he said that a special training camp for training of master trainers for the operation of Road Safety Knowledge Center would be organized at ITDR Bahadurgarh, Rohtak, and Kaithal.

Extending the vote of thanks, Joint Transport Commissioner, Sh. Nirmal Nagar said that a new campaign has been launched today, which will have far-reaching results. He said that starting from today; this webinar series will be held on July 16, 2021, Role of Traffic Management in Environment Protection, Role of Engineering in Road Safety on July 20, 2021, Role of Health Services in Road Safety on July 27, 2021, Civil Responsibility in Road Safety on August 5, 2021. On August 10, 2021 the Role of Media in Road Safety will be organized. On August 19, 2021 webinar will be organized on the topic Life protection on Roads. Rakshabandhan will be celebrated on August 26, 2021. Webinar on the Role of Art in Road Safety Campaign will be held on September 1, 2021 the Role of Educational Institutions in Road Safety and Role of Films in Road Safety on September 5, 2021. On these topics scholarly groups from across the country will interact with the youth of Haryana.

Convener of webinar Series, Sh. Rajiv Ranjan, said that these series is definitely the basis for paving the way for accident-free Haryana.

Books will be made available to Road Safety Knowledge Centre operated in all colleges. Under the direction of Sh. Shatrujit Kapoor Haryana Government’s Transport Manual Handbook Road Safety Quiz will be made available in Hindi/English mediums in the form of e-books. Apart from this, road safety should be made the subject of presentation in youth festival, annual festival and other cultural activities, for this especially a theatrical compilation titled ‘Sadak Sansar’ is being published and made available.
