ALC directed to fast-track disbursement of cash assistance
RAMBAN, MAY 15, 2021: Ramban Administration has started the process to provide Covid relief to 16,568 active construction workers of the District.
The move has been made following the announcement made by Lt. Governor, J&K, Manoj Sinha for providing financial assistance to the tune of Rs.1000 per month in favour of registered construction workers as covid relief amid the second wave.
The Government has decided to provide financial assistance for a period of two months to mitigate the sufferings of the construction workers who have been adversely affected due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam held a meeting to discuss and review the procedure for the disbursement of the financial assistance announced in favour of the construction workers.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Lal; Accounts Officer, Harvinder Singh; Assistant Labour Commissioner, Angrez Singh and Assistant Director, Employment, Naresh Kumar were attended the meeting.
Giving details, the Assistant Labour Commissioner said that last year an amount of Rs.2.76 crore was released in favour of approximately 7126 construction workers in four installments of Rs.1000 each. He added that following aggressive drive to register construction workers, the figure has now risen to 22,777, out of which 16,568 are active labour cardholders as of now.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the ALC to immediately get the labour card holders of the left-over construction workers renewed so that they are also be able to get the benefit of the Government schemes.
He also advised the ALC to immediately start the process for release of financial assistance as and when received so that some succor was brought to the families of the construction workers, largely affected due to restrictions on account of Covid-19 second surge.
