Digestive issues are more important than we think they are. It causes a lot of discomfort to us and we only react if these issues become severely painful to endure. These digestive ailments, if left unattended, can lead to other health issues. One of the most common issue is acidity. It is defined as a digestive disease in which the stomach acid irritates the food pipe’s lining. It causes heartburn which is a burning sensation in chest, stomach and throat. Frequent episodes of this may lead to other severe heart problems.
Common symptoms associated with acidity are:
- Abdominal discomfort, especially on an empty stomach
- Nausea or maybe vomiting
- Bloating; increased abdominal girth
- loose motions or constipation
- Loss of appetite
One needs to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to reduce acidity. It includes eating at the right time, in a proper position, chewing your food well and sitting upright for at least 30 minutes after the meal. There are certain home remedies you can try to cure acidity:
- Ajwain
Carom seeds have been known for relieving any digestive pain and discomfort. It aids digestion as well. It has a biochemical which is an active ingredient in promoting healthy digestion. You can chew it with a pinch of salt or soak a teaspoon in water overnight and have the water.
- Saunf
It is a part of Indian tradition to take a pinch of saunf after a meal. It not only helps with mouth odour but also with digestion. A mixture of saunf and mishry is consumed. It is also given to babies for relieving colic. Saunf soaked in water overnight can also be used and it can be added to tea as well. You can add sugar as per your taste.
- Milk and Yogurt
Milk is a perfect reliever of acidity. Cold or room temperature milk is the best solution. Sip it instead of gulping it. Since milk is a natural antacid, it is rich in calcium salts which neutralises the acid. Yogurt is another way of controlling acidity while keeping the gut healthy.
- Honey
Research has shown that taking a teaspoon of honey with warm water helps with acidity. Adding some lemon to it makes it a good alkalising agent which neutralises the acid in the stomach.
- Dhaniya
Dhaniya is a good way to tackle acidity. You can consume it by the way of fresh leaves, dried seeds or in juice. It can be added to water and buttermilk or can be powdered and used in cooking. You can consume it is tea as well.
- Fruits
All fruits have neutralising acids. They have fibres in them which improve digestion. Eat two fresh fruits daily. It also makes for a good snack while also controlling the acidity harming the lining of the stomach.
