6372 bottles of liquor seized in Nuh, two held

Chandigarh, April 27: In yet another bust, Haryana Police has seized 531 cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (6372 bottles) in Nuh district when the consignment was being smuggled in a truck from Sonipat to Uttar Pradesh. Two accused are also arrested in this connection.

          Giving this information here today, Haryana Police spokesperson informed that a police team received a tip-off that liquor smugglers were transporting a big consignment of liquor from Sonipat to Uttar Pradesh in a truck. After getting the information, police team established a naka on Nuh-Taoru road near village Bawla. When the team signaled a truck bearing UP registration number to stop, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape. Police team chased the vehicle and intercepted it and arrested both the driver and co-driver.

          Search of the truck led to recovery of 6372 bottles of Imperial Blue in 531 cartons.

          Arrested accused were identified as Shokeen Khan and Haider Ali, both residents of Nuh district.

           A case under relevant sections of Excise Act was registered against the accused and further investigation into this case has been taken up.

Chandigarh, April 27 – Amid rapid rise in COVID-19 cases and while realizing the need of meeting the current surge in demand for medical oxygen across the State, Haryana Government has set up Haryana Oxygen Control Room at Haryana Civil Secretariat, Chandigarh.

Sharing more details in this regard an official spokesperson said that all possible efforts are being made to increase the production of medical oxygen as well as diverting industrial oxygen for medical use.

Further to ensure equitable distribution of oxygen allocated by the Government of India for  Haryana and ensuring adequate and uninterrupted supply of medical oxygen within the State,  a State Level Oxygen control room has been set up at Haryana Civil Secretariat, Chandigarh

The Control Room is mandated to perform several vital functions including ensuring safe movement of oxygen tankers from manufacturing plants to the concerned districts. To  ensure each district is informed of daily allocation as issued by Health Department.

Ensuring each district issues its own distribution plan and operates an early warning system. Attends to emergent requests from the Deputy Commissioners.

Mapping of oxygen manufacturing plants and monitoring their transition from industrial oxygen to medical use. To monitor messages on Oxygen War Room (whatsapp group) which comprises Deputy Commissioners, HODS and Administrative Secretaries and initiate timely action.

The spokesperson said that the State Oxygen Control Room will be operated from Room number 43-A,  situated on the eighth floor and the helpline number of the Control Room is 0172-2740833.

The spokesperson  further informed that the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Disaster Management Act, 2005  had issued directions that the use of liquid oxygen is not allowed for any non-medical purpose and that all units manufacturing liquid oxygen shall maximize their production and make it available to the Government for medical purposes only with immediate effect and until further orders.

Meanwhile, Managing Director, Haryana State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation, Sh. Anurag Agrawal for Industrial Estates and Director, MSME,  Dr. Vikas Gupta for the rest of the State have been appointed for mapping of liquid oxygen manufacturing plants and monitoring their production and diversion to medical use.

A letter in this regard has been issued by the Chief Secretary to the concerned departments.
