Haryana Police has conducted a series of coordinated raids as a part of special drive ‘Operation Akraman’ to arrest criminals, proclaimed offenders, bail jumpers and to unearth illicit arms and liquor as well as narcotic substances throughout the state.
In this special drive, 494 FIRs were registered and 682 accused were arrested under relevant sections of IPC, NDPS and Arms Act. The drive was carried out to put a check on illegal weapons, put the criminals and anti-social elements behind bars and eradicate the drug menace from the state.
Disclosing the information here today, Director General of Police (DGP) Haryana Sh. P.K. Agrawal informed that according to the reports received from different districts, approx. 5000 police personnel in 616 teams raided a number of locations. During these raids, police teams arrested 6 most wanted criminals and 10 other offenders. In addition, the raiding teams have also managed to nab 58 proclaimed offenders and 28 bail jumpers. They were either absconding or wanted in several offenses registered against them across the state.
Similarly, 42 illegal firearms and 39 cartridges also seized from the possession of accused arrested under the Arms Act. The raiding teams have also recovered 380 gram opium, 75.58 gram smack, 47.8 gram heroin, 31.618 kg poppy husk, 60.042 kg ganja and 194 gram charas seized.
Cracking down on bootleggers, the teams confiscated 1884 bottles of country-made liquor, 123 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor, 112 bottles of beer and 1029 litres of lahan.
The DGP said that Police had also conducted raids in jail premises across the state to check unlawful activities, devices and other substances. Assessing the special drive, DGP Haryana found it to be of great deterrent value for criminals and a step towards instilling confidence in the rule of law amongst the general public. He added that such special drives will continue in the future as well.
