The Post Graduate Department of Commerce at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, under the aegis of IQAC of the college, began a week-long state level workshop titled ‘Research Methodology: Concepts and Applications’. The workshop is sponsored by College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh, and is designed to nurture research-oriented mindset of the students and help them have an in-depth understanding of the various dimensions of investigative explorations. The inaugural session was graced by the august presence of Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Chairperson, University Business School and Dean, College Development Council, Panjab University, as the Chief Guest.
Inaugurating the workshop, Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava appreciated the efforts of the Commerce Department for structuring such a relevant workshop encompassing various paradigms of research. She expressed hope that the workshop will be able to accomplish its objective of developing the research acumen of the students and motivating them to undertake research for the greater good of the society. Prof. Sanjay Kaushik initiated his thought-provoking address by apprising the participants about the importance of research and advising the young researchers to pursue research that is practically applicable and benefits the nation and the society. He emphasised on the need to focus equally on qualitative and quantitative research, and also highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary research.
The workshop took off to an enthusiastic start, with 64 student registrations. Following the inaugural, the technical sessions were conducted by Dr. Kiran Jindal, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce at the college and Dr. Harpreet Singh, Principal, GHG College, Gurusar Sudhar, Ludhiana. While Dr. Jindal shed light on the basics of research and the research process, Dr. Singh deliberated on review of literature, research gaps and the need of research. The participants’ queries were taken up by the resource persons at the end of their respective sessions.
